@ trrk

HOnda oil service from dealer costs Rs. 827/- . you are lucky. Mitsubishi's fuel filter itself costs more than Rs.1000/-(OE) and oil around Rs. 800/- I feel this is one of the reason honda is on top.

Hi rajivanoj,

I would have been luckier if Honda had a 10000kms oil change interval which is what is correct instead of 5000kms interval.

guys a noobie question, are there symptoms to suggest your car needs an oil change ? My ikon has just crossed its 10k kms after the previous oil change and its started to feel a little rough. The gear shift is also not as smooth as before. Does that suggest time for an oil change (i know 10k is anyways the time for an oil change but just want to figure out if the symptoms point to the car needing new oil.)

Not sure about cars, but my bike did show symptoms (strange grating kind of sounds) of needing an oil change after I crossed 3k kms (since last oil change) this week. But in my case, there was an oil leak happening due to busted O-rings which led to the oil level dropping a little below the Low mark on the dipstick. So, I changed the O-rings and replaced the oil and all is well now.

If its done 10k kms since the last oil change and the Ford recommended frequency is 10k kms, why keep it pending ? Go change the oil, man.

I dont think the gear-shift smoothness has anything to do with engine oil - that would be the transmission oil, I guess.

Guys,
My Getz petrol 1.3 has completed 21k kms. Do I need to change the engine oil? If yes, to which brand? And what are the benefits of using synthetic oil?

topping up engine oil

hi guys,
today i got my car tuned up, so checked my entire car and topped up the engine oil in my car. it has done 2500kms since its oil change.
now my problem is this that i put castrol magnetec and it is a chevrolet optra 1.6 and it takes 3.7ltrs of oil, and he has put in less than 500ml of mineral oil!
i wanna know will there be any problem in my engine. to be honest my engine has become quite smooth and i dont feel any problem in the revving. also the mechanic told me it is not a problem and told me not to bother about it.
please advice as i can go and change the entire engine oil. also incase if i want to flush it out, which are the best engine flushing agents available and when and how to do it?
have heard that u simply add the flushing agent in the engine oil and run it for around 100-200kms and then drain it out.

If delvac mx meets API Cf 4 standard, i can use it on my lancer. But, even pennzoil too meets that standard and with low price than mobil delvac. Can i feel the difference between both?

Though i change oil every 6000kms, After reading this thread, i have switched to delvac. But the thing is what are major benefits of it over other cheaper pennzoil , which also meets same standards.

Check your owner manual. Drain intervals with either synth or mineral are the same. Synth does not last twice or thrice as long as dealers would have you believe. Dont fall for that theory.

Dont worry too much about the mixing of oils. Castrol Magnatec is semi synth so mixing with mineral shouldnt be a problem. Just change your oil at the recommended intervals.

What you need to think about is why you lost 1/2 litre of oil in 2500 Kms. Hope there's no oil leak.

Rgds,

And what makes you say they do??

Read around at a synth oil mfrs site or other auto enthusiast sites on the 'net and you will know. Unless explicitly specified by the oil mfr as extended drain oils, you go by the engine mfrs specs. None of the synth oils currently sold legally in India last drain intervals exceeding that recommended by the car/engine mfr.

It would be one year or 10,000 kms, whichever comes first!
