Weird sound from the rear in Getz

I have been facing a strange noise since the last few days in my car. It has worsened with the onset of rains.

When in 1st/2nd gear at normal speeds, or when I slow down to stop at a signal, or when there is sudden braking (not at very high speed), I hear a 'thump' kind of sound from the rear (left) of the car.

It is as if someone suddenly dumped a heavy box in the boot. The car feels slightly weighed down (for a fraction of a second) at the rear. At times I felt as if the car was being 'pulled' at the rear, in the opposite direction, when this sound came (although only for a fraction of a second).

This sound is not continuous and does not occur on a daily/regular basis.
I also noticed that the sound has accentuated after I start the car which has been parked in the rain throughout the day. So initially I thought the brakes have gotten wet.

Braking is fine and the car has done 21000 kms till now. However, this sound is making me feel uncomfortable.

What could be the degree of intensity, source and solution of the problem?

Check the rear drum brakes, seems like a sticky brake pad due to water.

Its nothing but the rear brakes.

@akshay1234:
If this was the fact, it would have been troubling him since 21K kms. But this problem surfaced now.

Mostly rear brakes are culprit.

I think Jaggu has nailed it. Many rear brakes do this on many vehicles. A 100 rupee clean up and inspection is in your future.

it might not be but im just letting him know that this is a common problem in the getz. there are enough including me who have faced this. the tak tak noise is very soft and isnt even noticeable most of the time.
