You can also use Uudh*. That stuff women put on hot coals while drying their hair.

In fact anything that smokes a lot but does not have an unpleasant smell.

*English name is agarwood as per Google.

I will get the "slotting into right cushion" thing checked, potentially that looks like the problem area.

Usually this gets aggravated when you roll windows up or down in a moving car at high cruising speeds. At least its happened in my Safari.

I would recommend being very careful trying something like this in a closed chamber. Run the risk of asphyxiation.

Giving Safari 2.2 for 5th regular 45K service tomorrow. Any special items to be looked for/changed other then the routine check-ups, oil & filter changes. No noticeable problem as such though, till now in the past 2.5 yrs of ownership! (Thank God), except:

(1) Have been feeling little reduced bite in brakes for past few days, particularly, on starting the vehicle when brake is pressed for the very 1st time, the paddle goes fully to the floor and it feels as if no brake is applied!! but, afterwards it works normally!! Could it be just d case of routine cleaning of brake pads required or something else? My front brake pads were replaced at 28.5K. So they are just 17.5K old.

(2) Want to learn more about Tyre rotation. I have done this only once at 28.5K. At that time front and rear tyres were replaced for the same side, i.e. FR changed with RR and FL with RL. Should I go for another rotation, if yes, then in what way? Gurus, pl. throw some light. Other safari owners what's been your experience!! I recollect someone (I think Dadu! or JK Das) suggested to rotate tires every 7.5k kms! How to go about it now? Your valuable suggestions pl...

I hear a lot of wind noise from both driver side and passenger side door at high speeds, this noise is way too much annoying and so loud that even if the music is ON, you can still hear it. Moreover outside air / smell easily enters the cabin and stays for long time. What could be the issue?

Regarding first feature :D : Noise become too much after 90 KMPH. I feel it is bad aerodynamic design and little we can do anything about it.

Regarding second feature :D : My Safari do not get smell inside in re-circulation mode. Yes, but do not know when this feature will appear. The electronic flap which closes the outside vent should have proper rubbering to avoid this. Check if you can do some DIY with this flap. Little you expect from TASS to solve this issue.

I hear you, and what AVR is also saying. Somehow not very comfortable with this, as I am so used to with my Chevy Magnum which has best in class noise and wind (read smell) insulation. I will somehow try to resolve this, if not, will live with it.

there is air in the system, get it bleeded properly

Tyre Rotation is suggested every time you get Alignment and Balancing done to maximise the use of tyres.
.

usually after pressing the brakes few times, the paddle should harden up but get it done never theless

Close everything.

A person inside the vehicle has a couple of smoking agarbathi's. Takes them around the vehicle.
Another person watches from outside to spot the place from where the smoke exits the vehicle.

Wow, never heard of this trick, will try out once to see if it works. Ingenious I must say.clap:

I always wondered what these women were up to with all that smoke, good that you clarified. :D

Be careful, you don't want burn marks on your seats.
BTW, have you tried this trick, any precautions (health-wise) ?

Spike

Spike. I have seen this method employed at a small car service center to locate a water leak from the door.

The smoke from the oodh is quite thick and it was very easy to see from where it was coming out.

oodh is quite safe. In fact we even use it for drying the hair of infants.

It was done for me and my sister when we less than a year old. Touchwood nothing has gone bad after 3 decades.

Oodh / Dhoop / Sambhrani / Guggal / Dhooni / Dhoono is based on a tree resin and has been in use in rituals and household 'purification' (pest extermination, really) since time immemorial - most Indians would have had lungfuls of it since childhood.

This type of 'smoke test' has been in use for testing for leaks even by building aircon technicians.

Today, the key broke in the ignition lock while I was starting Safari. This is the 3rd time that the key has broken into the ignition lock, I must say the quality of material used for keys is really not upto the mark. Now I am thinking of installing a separate push-button for starting the vehicle, for now the vehicle starts as the broken key is stuck inside and I have only to insert the broken key (the one which is with me) and twist to start the vehicle. Will remove the key today and go for a push button start on the coming service.

Was just inspecting my Safari keys today for cracks and wear and tear and here I read about this, I've had this happen with my Sumo many years ago and it was not a pleasant experience with the vehicle stuck at a petrol pump with a broken key in the diesel tank opening hatch, the steering was locked with the wheels in an unnatural angle with did not make pushing the vehicle out of the way any easier.

But, how do you intend to make a push button start possible, even for that the key has to be inserted to bring the electricals "ON"".

Update: Got the new keys from a Local Key guy for 125 Rs. (Two keys exact like OEM and closes\opens all the locks) and 50 Rs for removing the key from ignition lock. This required hard bargaining as some of the guys quoted me 500 Rs for a set of keys.:Frustrati

But, what if a Flip key or key with transponder breaks?

Similar to a Truck or Bus I will be using the key to turn on the electricals and push-button for starting the vehicle. Will post the snaps after I do it.

Srini, the 3L safari has the needle at the 1/4 mark (engine warmed up) while the 2.2 has it at the 1/2 mark. Mine is the 3L safari :).
The coolant levels are perfectly fine in both the radiator and the reservoir.

It's perfectly normal. I too have a 3L Safari and it behaves the same way untill the car is moving at a pace the needle remains @ 1\4th and in stop n go traffic it climbs to 1\2 mark. Infact sometimes I observe that in speeds too the needle goes till half way mark. Also depends on the riding style.:)

You can also go for keyless push to start system like in micra (if your budget permits) , just keep the keys in the pocket, and drive, there are many companies who can install this .
:)

Could you specify a few of the names of companies who do have other options like the one you have specified.
