I remember owing a OHC in 1999,it was written 90BHP on the brochure, and now when i bought the Hyundai Getz 2007 its 83PS.
What is the difference between BHP and PS,how do one calculate this thing???
and the difference is in the standards followed by various companies/ countries just like the Mile and Km thing.
I think it is 1PS = 1.015 BHP.. but I may have forgotten :-(
It's correct. PS, i believe stands for Pferdest rke and is the German for Horse power. Looking at the conversion(.98 against 1), one can assume that the German horses are weaker than European ones.lol:
I guess nowadays companies are sticking to PS since it turns out to be 1-2 more than bhp. Eg. i10 Kappa: 80PS. Psychologically 80 sounds more than 78.x.
In German; PS = Pferd (Horse) Stärke (power)
BHP is the British system and PS is used as metric system
1 PS = 75 kg x 1 g (9.8065 mts/sec2) x 1 mtr/sec = 735.4875 Watts
1 BHP is about 746 Watts
To avoid confusion, some countries are using SI units for Power (Kilowatt)
Why can't the industry use one standard format accross the board ? Life would be much simpler. I think HP is the most widely understood & accepted term. If all companies stick to that, comparisons would be far simpler !!
Instead of BHP / HP / PS / Kw..etc etc
Cheers

1 PS = 0.986 HP
1 HP = 1.014 PS
bhp is the real thing (team bhp) while PS(photoshopped) is what you get to make it more pleasing. 78bhp = 90PS. See.
