Petrol & Petrol Additives

I hope questions on Petrol also can be classified as under the hood questions !

For a Euro III car for I was wondering what fuel should be used, hence a few questions on the same:
What Petro brands (IBP,IOL, etc) are good.
What Petro brands need to be avoided.
What class of petrol needs to be used?
What are the additives that are recommended that will improve the engine life and fuel efficiency. Also where can I get them and what is the frequency and when?
Any Pune specific Petrol outlets that are good.
I was reading through some of the other posts which mentioned Octane levels etc. Not sure what that is as at the gas station they only know Premium, Power and unleaded.

Also the dealer is of the opinion that normal unleaded petrol at any outlet is good enough.

Thanks in advance

First thing is refer to your car manual. It clearly specifies which Octane rated fuel needs to be used for your car. Anything above that Octane rating is fine. Typically, almost all the cars in India require 87 Octane (unless you make performance mods requiring higher octane).

Each Oil company has its own names for different Octane rated Petrol.

BP : Regular 87 unleaded, Speed 93 and Speed 97.
Reliance : 93 (?) and 98 Octane.
HP : Power 91 Octane.

Dont remember for Indian Oil.

For Euro III, the sulpur content is reduced. So, check again in your car manual for the same.

In Pune, you should stick to following Petrol pumps :
1. HP company operated pump near Agriculture college signal.
2. Kulkarni Petrol pump on Laxmi road.
3. BP company operated pump near RTO.
4. BP pump on Shastri Road.

*** Avoid filling up on SB Road HP pump, Chandani Chawk petrol pump and the one on Karve road adjuscent to Kasat ***

Have been a BP loyalist all along. earlier for my bike and now for my car... Used to religiously add System G... a sachet per 10 litres used to be norm.. but since the arrival of Speed.. have stopped doing that.....

In terms of good petro bunks.... the one on the Marine Drive junction just beside NJ JBTB is the best.... have never had any problems at all with them... Amar automobiles at Matunga too is quite good.. rather these are the ones that I frequent regularly....

Would speed suffice for the Euro 3 cars or does one need to upgrade to the Speed 93??

Nice signature One of my friends shuttles between Pune and Mumbai very often. He uses Reliance 98 Octane fuel. He claims, it does wonders to his esteem. He has strongly recommended me to use it, but I have other reasons for not doing so.
