A quick question to all Civic owners who have installed amps. Where have grounded your amps? Are you happy with it?

In Scorponok's case, a bolt on the metal plate below the rear parcel tray has been used as the ground. I dont think it is an optimal arrangement, therefore looking for suggestions.

I understand some tire sizes / brands are in short supply due to ISI rules change recently.

No. Must be at least 205/60 or even better 205/65. 205/65 may compromise handling a bit, but extra GC is worth its weight in gold for the civic. The extra cushioning also helps tremendously in today's potholed road conditions. Will save you the trip to a back specialist.

I think that's where the amp is grounded in my car - or thereabouts. Similar position used for both amps in the Baleno too.

Having said that there is alternator whine in the Civic. Keeping amp gains to almost negligible levels eliminates the noise. Of course, I'm not sure that whine is due to the grounding. It probably is not. A more credible culprit is the LOC and the RCAs.

Don't go lower than 205/60 for R15. That will severly compromise GC, which is already an issue for Civic. I would strongly suggest 205/65 R15. I have those on my car and it is extremely good for comfort and peace of mind.

re: Honda Civic : Maintenance, Service Costs and Must dos

FYI.

Was at Linkway Honda (Chandivli, Mumbai) yesterday for replacing a rear door actuator for my Accord (costed me Rs.1900/-).

There was this gentleman getting his front disks replaced for his Civic 1.8 S AT. The billing was around Rs.13000 inclusive of labour.

re: Honda Civic : Maintenance, Service Costs and Must dos

The civic at home was serviced yesterday at Ring Road Honda peera garhi. The car had 54,500 on the clock, 14,500 kms since last service. The car was running on ide-mitsui synthetic and 15k service schedule wasnt a bit of an issue, considering the fact that the engine is occasionally revved to its limit. 50% the car is driven by the driver and 50% by my cousin.

Day before yesterday, the AC of the car stopped working and I suspected leaked gas. The ASC diagnosed it as broken cooling coil and called my uncle to say that a new one will be needed and will cost 19k in total (including abour etc). My uncle asked the advisor to leave it till I go and inpect the vehicle and carry on with the service. In half an hour the advisor called again and told that the issue was with reading the job card and it was actually coil chowk and not coil broke..And the AC will do fine with coil cleaning. My uncle approved of the job. The advisor also asked for under body coating and my uncle approved of it.

I go in the evening to take the vehicle and see the advisor. I ask to see the car and the work carried out before I make the payment. Our driver had already got the oil changed in front of him in the morning but I was to check the other jobs in the list.

he asked me to wait and check the new Brio for 5-10 mins till the car comes down from 2nd floor. I say ok.

Car comes down in 15 mins and is put on lift and I check the 3M under body coating. Other things charged were Rs. 300 for brake cleaning, god knows what they did, we never asked for it; and door hindges and lubrication for Rs.2700. I remember this being done at 40k kms and I objected. The advisor said the car was service at moti nagar ring road Honda last time instead of peera garhi (this time) but I remember the car being service at peera garhi only at 40k. Peera garhi ring road honda didnt have any other details apart from hydraulic mounting change. Couldnt help for it. My uncle has asked accountant to check the car's file in office (car in company's name).

I asked the cost for the AC and advisor tells me that the cooling coil was chowked.
me: so how did you clean it
advisor: sir with presure washer
me: so you opened the dash
advisor: no sir cooling coil in behind the front bumper
me: thats condensor
advisor: yes sir, that only
me: never mind, so you mean condensor was dirty
advisor: yes, and we cleaned the coil (condensor) and put new gas
me: so gas was also leak
advisor: yes
me: suspecious, but you have not charged me for it
advisor: sir, actually your car has come here for the first time, so its kinda a good will gesture
me: no problem: you add it to the bill and put a discount if its a good will gesture
advisor: we cant do that sir, if we put it on bill you will have to pay for it
me: ok put it on bill, i ll pay for it
advisor: sir, you can check the ac its fine, why pay for it.
me: idiot (I am sure, no gas was leaked..)

I check the car and go to pay the bill while I get reminded of the warranty card for underbody coating.

I ask our driver to go ask for it from the advisor. My driver comes back and say that the advisor says there is no such warranty.

I freak out this time and ask my driver to ask the advisor to come and see me.

me: this is 3M underbody coating right?
advisor: yes
me: then I need a warranty card or a written statement. this is not the first time or the first car I am getting coating done at.
advisor: there is 3 years warranty, he wrote it on the job card and put a company stamp on it.
me: thanks but this was very unprofessional, I can lodge a complaint for the same.
advisor: sorry sir, I actually confirmed for warranty from someone else, I didnt know that there is warranty for underbody coating.
me:

so I pay for the damage, this is just a near by figure, dont have exact ones with me as of now

oil 2700
filter 200 (not sure)
labour 1250
underbody coating 4500
door/hindges lubrication 2700
brake pad cleaning 300
taxes..
discount.. 700
total: 12,500 after discount

Althought the work carried out was good, the experience was nothing to write about.

in between I also asked advisor about the service of brio and jazz:

me: whats the service interval for brio
advisor: 10k
me: and for jazz
advisor: 5k
me: and why is that, both the cars have same engine so why this differenciation.
Advisor: sir, the technology is different
me: ya, so jazz is old technology right..
advisor: ya its older than brio..
me: never mind...

EDIT: the big thing is that the car has atually stopped consuming engine oil since last 15k k kms. On normal oil, it needed about a Litre of oil every 5k kms..

Gaurav, Thanks for the post. Basically this says that we need to be alert all the time, regardless of badges and brand names. One question, how did the old oil look after 14.5 k of service. Did anyone notice anything?

re: Honda Civic : Maintenance, Service Costs and Must dos

A couple of question's to all Civic owners.

Tackling speed breakers-Will it be right to shift all the way down to 1st while crawling over a speed breaker or shall i glide over it using second and the clutch which is the method i use in my 800.In the civic i find the car comes to almost a stall in second.Which gear you guys use to tackle the hump?

Groaning sound from the wheel-I am hearing a typical groaning and creaking sound from the front passenger side wheel while starting off. It's not a rattling sound but rather like the sound of a old door being opened that kind of sound.I hope it's not mounts as my mechanic and the HASS have not mentioned anything about same during the routine checkup/service.Any idea what the sound could be?

re: Honda Civic : Maintenance, Service Costs and Must dos

Do you guys notice that the metal between the inside and outside panel of the door frame and body frame gets very dirty in civic? There doesn't seem to be any rubber gasket on the outer panel of the door making water and dirt go in between the gaps. Is there any way to prevent this from happening?
