This (20k/30k) life applies to stock pads/nissin pads I suppose. Or are you referring to mintex. Mine running is 70% highway, 30% city (no bumper to bumper traffic).

20-30k for Stock Nissin Pads.

Mintex in bumper to bumper traffic is max 8k kms and thats it.

Since your on highway you got almost 40% more,

How much are the mintex pads for ? and the change in breaking is it noticeably better than that of stock ones?

Yes change in braking is noticeably better. They cost around 13k for a 13k life (in my case).

Any other better (VFM) braking option you could suggest.

If a person does say 70% highway driving and 30% in hardcore traffic and if he drives on Highway + city super super saintly and hypermiling then achieving 50k out of brake pads is possible but then whats the point of using a civic if you cant enjoy her.
I drive my A/T very briskly in in Gurgaon and Delhi. And you know how the traffic in Gurgaon is. Hypermilling is absolutely out of question. Infact, i am reprimanded by family and friends for driving too fast. And I still get 50K out of my pads. Will get them changed when the A.S.S recommends.
The last 2 cars i had (Santro & Opel, both M/T) , the pads lasted 40K. So getting 50K out of an A/T with brisk driving is something I did not expect and I am happily surprised. Same with the OE tyres (Michelin). Bridgestones in earlier cars never lasted beyond 40K

Can someone tell me the exact model/part number of mintex brake pads and where I can import them from. The tuner seems to have gone on a long holiday.

re: Honda Civic : Maintenance, Service Costs and Must dos

Has anybody experienced brake pad binding to disc on their Civic ? My front left brake seems tight as can't push car without extra effort in neutral and even wheel rim is hotter than others . My car has just run 30k kms in 4yrs and have changed pads at 22k it seems to be due to rust on disc it gets free after running for 10-12 kms any remedies ?

Are you sure they have been fixed properly, the discs do get rust and never it touches the pads, also the rust gets brushed off after driving for few mins. This might mean a fixing problem. Do get it checked at a different service center. BTW How many Kms are done on new pads.

The new pads have done around 7k kms the rust which comes on discs due to enthusiastic watchman washing tyres gets brushed off after a few kms I agree but only left tyre seems to be binding and the rim also gets considerably hotter than others . Similar problem on my Qualis when it was 8 yrs old was deduced to calliper jamming let's see what others comment about it.

This seems like a calliper jamming issue. I don't think the rust on discs has anything to do with it. The fact that rim is hotter is another indicator of the calliper jamming and creating excess heat.

The discs are almost invariably cast iron, so rusting will occur.

re: Honda Civic : Maintenance, Service Costs and Must dos

I got a quote from Bajaj Allianz for Rs.15794 For an IDV of 1188240 for Standard Insurance (For 2010 V AT)

T & C

Compulsory PA (owner driver)-Rs. 2lakhs.
Third-party property damage-upto Rs.7, 50,000.
Third-party individual-Unlimited. (In case of total permanent disablement or death).
This includes Co-passengers cover for 1 lakhs each

For Bumper to Bumper coverage they quoted 29060.

Royal Sundaram quoted Rs.25624 for BTB IDV 1188000

HDFC Ergo quoted Rs.18482 for an IDV of 1100000

Few questions:

1)Do the quotes look OK or on the expensive side.
2)Is it advantageous to Go for BTB cover or Normal cover should suffice.
3)How has been the experience with Bajaj Allianz,HDFC Ergo vs Royal Sundaram.

Thanks

Hi,

The quote appears very reasonable. Go for it.

Regarding Insurance Cos I know of HDFC Ergo. They are quite reasonable.

P.S - How much discount for NCB are you claiming?

re: Honda Civic : Maintenance, Service Costs and Must dos

Sent the car for the 70k service today. The service adviser at Apex Honda called up saying the engine mounting is weak and the front wheel bearings need to be replaced.

Since I had known about the engine mounting and have asked him to get that done under warranty. He mentioned unavailability and suggested that he would order for it. He also mentioned that he would check on the warranty, though I made it clear that I ain't paying for it. Hope it got through him.

Am not very sure about the wheel bearings though. What is the normal life? Have clocked around 45k on the odometer so far.
