What about fuel efficiency? Is it more efficient than manually pressing the accelerator to maintain a constant speed?

It will depend on how you use the cruise control.
We can put it this way. While cruise control is engaged for a set speed, the system will worry only about the speed and not the terrain. So, while on cruise control, if you climb a slope, the car will downshift and accelerate more to maintain the speed. On downhill, it will brake up to keep at the speed.
This is in turn a non desirable scenario.

On the contrary, on straight even strips, putting cruise control keeps engine maintain a constant speed. And this, for engines like R18, is ideal for better mileage.

re: Honda Civic : Maintenance, Service Costs and Must dos

That explanation makes sense. I was tired of keeping my foot constantly on the accelerator while I was using the Yamuna expressway to travel from Delhi to Agra. Vast empty stretches of straight cemented roads. That's when I missed having cruise control in my Civic. But I guess one can use a brick or something :P

So far the Yamuna E'way is the only road where we found Cruise Control handy. What I found intriguing was that the operation in the Civic diferred a bit from that on the City AVN. I must say I miss the on steering audio controls (which are there in my Brio!). I hear a later avatar of the Civic after May 2010 had these as well.

Can you please let know, what the difference is?

On the Civic you select Cruise Control come up to speed and then a prolonged push on the Reduce Button engages CC. Two indicators light up when CC is operational. On the AVN it is just a set and release with the up down buttons only for changing the set point. Only one indication on the panel.

re: Honda Civic : Maintenance, Service Costs and Must dos

Hi Guys,
Met with a small accident but with real nasty blow to my civic. Also realised the hard way that you should not 'talk' and drive, even if you're on speakerphone!
In an almost bumper-to-bumper traffic near phoenix mall - kurla, managed dash into an tata ace, as he applied sudden brakes, while i didn't... and i hope the pictures tell you the story...
Writing in to seek help/guidance/advise from fellow members. My Civic is CNG'd. I have got my RC book endorsed, but my insurance endorsement was pending and this accident happened. Which means i can't apply for claims at TATA-AIG. (as per the conversation that linkway supervisor had with the insurance personnel, i crossed checked and got the same answer from their helpline.).
Following are the damage areas, would appreciate if anybody can help me with the cost of the parts, and also where can i buy them (specific referrals with name/ contact details will help, specially in opera house)
  1. Front Bumper (Needs replacement, mine is a 06 civic. Has anybody tried putting the facelifted civic's bonnet in the 06 version? does it work? honda says not possible. Any suggestions where to buy it from (i've been asked to explore sion-kurla market for second hand deals) , and the pricing for the same?
  2. Bonnet - Since the bonnet is bent from both the Upper as well as the inside (under the hood) area, i've been told to replace that too... Honda ASS is quoting 26,500 + 5200 for labour. Any suggestions where can i buy it from outside, and how much will it cost?
  3. Condensor - Repair/Replace - The condensor is bent inwards due to the impact, however there's no leakage, and the cooling is intact... what's advised? repair or replacement for a peace of mind for future running?
  4. Apart from the above, the headlights alignment and the Right fender is disaligned....which i hope can be taken care of by a skilled mechanic along with denting+ painting, so please advise somebody for the job.
Please Let me know if anybody can suggest me a good mechanic + paint job specialist... I'm thinking of giving the whole job to Ravi Auto (in chandivali), though he's primarily a painter...(any other suggestions welcomed. He's given me an estimate of 25K). Wagenworks by jatin is my other consideration...
I Intend to do the sourcing myself, so please do pass on the contact of OEM suppliers
Will appreciate all your help, and many thanks in advance!

Thanks Agarwaka, but with the kind of costs he charge i'd rather spend the same at Honda ASS, and at his place he put parts without even taking a due approval from customers (last time i ended up paying 40K more for suspension a job i wasn't even was told was to be performed, with no detailed invoicing). Not a huge fan after that episode.

The car is fitted with a BMC cold air intake and custom exhaust. They quoted Rs. 45k for the job! I politely declined and took the car back.

Now few queries.
What route shall I take to get this fixed?
Is it possible to get a 'performance' throttle body? If yes, then what make at what price?
Can't this get repaired? Will a repaired throttle body impact performance?

Just need an advice on a VFM solution that should not compromise on performance.
Ok. So here's an update. Getting the car repaired out of Honda at a very famous non-brand workshop here at Gurgaon. The throttle body is replaced but the RPMs are not coming down from 2.5k RPMs and the engine light is on. ECU was sent to repair, but the fault light came up again after driving for 10 kms. Now for the final time ECU is sent to repair. The mechs have suggested to give it one last chance failing which I would have to buy a new ECU which apparently costs a bomb.

Need suggestions: Can this ECU be repaired at any shop around Delhi?
If not, can I get a performance ECU (race dynamics) which can bypass the stock ECU? At what price?

The car is kitted with a BMC air intake + a custom FFE.

Any other way out?

Please suggest.

What is the error code that the ECU returns for showing up the fault light?
There should be an error code, which the OBD can read to determine the cause of the light. Getting to know that might give an idea on the depth of damage.

Professor, mine is a July 2010 manufactured V M/T, and it doesn't have audio controls on the steering wheel.

In early 2011, Honda brought a facelifted Civic to the market. As far as I remember, even this model only came with sunroofs, and not audio controls on the wheel.

By the way, used the cruise control for good stretches on the GT Road on my way to Gurgaon from Amritsar yesterday. Of course, it doesn't compare with roads in the desert area of Rajasthan where CC could be used for multiple dozens of minutes in a row, but for what it's worth, it gave my currently slightly troubled right knee some respite.

Once again, my July 2010 Civic exhibits the behaviour you describe of the AVN. I engage CC Master, reach a certain speed, set CC speed using the Set/Decel button (no long push required), and then use the Set/Decel and Accel buttons. Then I use either the brakes or the cancel button to disengage when required. The Master is on all the time unless I know there's no hope of quickly re-engaging CC once disengaged.

I think long push of Set/Reset serves to double up as auto Master on/off. Not sure, since I manually turn Master on/off.

Long push of set reset serves for increasing /decreasing the set CC speed. (at least on 2010 version).

Mine's a Jul 2010 make, and regular push (not long) also results in +/- 1 mph (1.6 kmph) change in CC speed per press. I guess with long push it keeps on increasing/decreasing speed continuously in 1 mph steps. Never tried long push because a sequence of single pushes usually does it for me and also gives me the required control over the speed setting.
