Cold water + hot engine = cracked block or head. :Frustrati

I did not add coolant to a hot engine, waited a good 3-4 hours for the engine to cool down.

How was the radiator cleaned? That most probably will point to how all this could have started in the first instance.

In most cases I see the ASS putting pressurized water into the radiator with the plug open. This is the biggest culprit and a poor practice. This probably would have done irreversible damage to the valve and it would have remained in stuck position, not allowing the coolant to flow freely, there by over heating and the rest of the issues that accompany.

It was cleaned by brushes and I'm thinking what was soap water. No high pressure water was used anywhere.

Update: I met fellow bhpian interc00led yesterday and he has convinced me to get the garage out of the HASS and bring it to his FNG, which I am confident about. Worst case scenario is we buy a second engine and brand new cooling parts for the car if the engine is damaged.
Will constantly update here as we are going to semi-diy from here on.

Any more information or questions are still welcomed. :)

1) coolant wont go in the radiator, and gas/steam would come out of the filling hole.

Clear sign of a blown head gasket. Should cost you one fourth of that at a competent FNG.

In my case, the radiator was choked with dried coolant. I got a new radiator and everything is back to normal.

Actually, if you keep the engine running with circulation through the radiator, you can add fluids slowly and safely into the radiator. No risk of any block cracking.

Hi guys,

I am planning to buy a Civic AT 2012 Sunroof model (75000 kms run)

Need guidance from experts here on two things
What is the price I should pay?
What is the FE I should expect in Mumbai Traffic realistically?

The price could be anywhere between 3-5 lakhs depending on its condition and your eagerness to buy etc. 3.5-4l should be a sweet deal. Expect a fuel efficiency of around 8kmpl.

Thanks man, are you mentioning about Delhi scenario? In that case I will apply a 25k buffet for Mumbai.

Yes. Do check the mounts and the power steering system thoroughly. The latter can lead to expensive repairs later.

Do get the checked out from Honda and have a look at the service history. Do not skip on the service history as the odo can be tampered.

We got the exact same model (only 30K run) around two years ago, but no idea on current prices. Although, it's one heck of a car with some good upgrades included at the late end of its life cycle. FE should be around 8 odd in Mumbai traffic. Frankly, don't bother paying a small premium if you're getting a well maintained vehicle. With acceptance to AT growing and Civic being re-introduced, the resale down a few years might come as a pleasant surprise.

What price did you pay mate?

At that time, slightly upwards of 7. Might have overpaid but the car was as good as new, and haven't regretted even once. I'm sure resale value would be quite less by now, besides the tag of being discontinued still hangs. While we are at it, please do PM me if there's a USB connection inside the arm rest. I'm still confused whether it was factory fitted or was done by the owner :)

And like the suggestions above, get the full history checked along with inspection of some critical components. (PS: Engine mounts give away for every Civic it seems, so don't worry about that.) And info on this wonderful thread will take care of pretty much any technical queries you have.

I have owned a SMT before. The auto and sunroof is something I want now. Plus the beautiful design. Will get the AT definitely checked, with engine mounts. (my old car didn't face the mount issues)

.

That's there by default. The earlier Civics used to have a 6 CD changer. The facelift got a USB port in armrest and lost the CD changer.

When should the cabin filter be changed? Once a year or every n kms?

I take mine out every couple of months and dust it. Some say something like every 10,000km or a year, but if you dust it, I suppose you can use it longer until airflow isn't affected
