You are right sir. Shell and other pvt cos generally seems to be more accurate in quantity than on quality. It is really difficult to say what causes the "perceived" better FE. I really dont see an issue of poor quality fuel these days as much as it was earlier. Maybe due to better quality control and processes. That also may be the reason why some pump guys resort to techniques such as short fueling and tricking the driver with a "non-zero" start. If quality cannot be tampered, play around with quantity.

Thats why I dont worry about second decimal place FE. Or even first decimal!

I like ranges. They are practical and lower BP generators. Example: when car gives 9.9736, it is considered as 10. Or if it gives 10.5521, it is 10.5. So on the final analysis, car gives 10-10.5. Period.

First decimal is valid.

I see a clear correlation between the amount of bumper-to-bumper driving and F/E to the 1st decimal across tankfuls.

Driving style over a tankful kind of remains the same, and I'm of course assuming that difference in fuel quality + quantity across refills is statistically insignificant.

If I remember right, there was an 'E' variant that was being sold during the initial days of launch that came with steel rims and hub caps. Could be one of those.

Yes it is. Thankfully, not something you have to change every year. This is my second replacement in 50k kms. The previous was at 25k. I think in MTs they last for around 40-50K kms.

5.2K is roughly the price of 2 tank-fulls in Bangalore.

If only we had somebody like Pepboys, and they had offered NISSIN pads at half the price, I would have gone for it confidently. In a country where 90% of all gray market stuff are fake, I wouldn't take a chance with a component like a brake pad.

I am considering a used Honda Civic done 39K.I spoke to my trusted mechanic who has
not actually seen the car but recommened that i stay away from the vehicle saying that since
i will be the 3rd owner and the car has crossed 30 K all kinds of issues may crop up.

I will be taking the car to my mechanic tomorrow as i have requested him to take a look anyway.
Do you guys think a 39 K will be a bad buy.The owner is asking 6.9 for the car and the car is yet
to be transffered in his name.

You might have to spend Rs. 50,000 within the next one year on this particular car. You might need new tyres, new clutch (possibly) and new brake pads - front and back.

If you have lots of cars to choose from, avoid Civics with 35 - 40,000 kms on the clock. But if you are OK with spending around 50k, go ahead and take a look.
