I would suggest you to call up the HASSs you normally visit and ask them about the insurance companies they have cashless settlement arrangements. Select one of those companies even if it is 1k expensive.

11k should be the pre-NCB quote. Rule of thumb is ~2.5% of IDV. Act and other things are about 2.6k.

At this age cashless may not help much since you will still be liable for the depreciation. Going for a no depreciation policy will add about 2% of the IDV (no NCB here) to the price.

Prof,

What does 0 dep exactly mean?

Suppose I have a IDV 0f 5 L and a 0 dep policy and I suffer an accident which needs 10000/- for denting and painting the metal body panels of the car.

Do I get reimbursement of the entire amount of 10000/-?

So I guess. But then you will be paying Rs.10,000 + taxes as additional premium every year. I think it is a con, in a new car it adds under 0.5% extra, but then builds up as the car ages.

This I found out very recently, when I got a crazy quote on the phone. When describing the chap said so much (11k+) for zero depreciation.I naturally said I have not had it and do not want it either.

In any case, the zero depreciation option is not available for cars older than 3 years, which is exactly when such a policy would make a lot of sense especially for these expensive cars (taking malicious intent out of the equation).

Try whatever financial skullduggery anyone may, no depreciating commodity can morph into an asset (let alone one of the appreciating variety).

Yes, you should get the complete amount reimbursed, the only exception is you will have to pay the compulsory deductible amount of Rs 500/- from your pockets for the Insurance claim. But this will definitely jack up your next year's premium if you still continue with zero dep.

Zero depreciation is an add on option which will reduce your part of payment in case of any Insurance claim. Pls read the weblink for finer detail (for reference purpose only). Every Insurance co have their fine print for the zero dep add on, so pls read it carefully before you opt for it. The only -ve is it will cost over and above the normal Insurance premium.

There are threads in the Insurance section reg the zero dep, request you to read them and post your queries in the Insuance section.

Compulsory Deductible Amount is Rs.2,000/- now for Civic (Rs.1,000/- for cars upto 1500 cc)

Anyone knows someone who got his bumpers painted recently?

What is the approximate cost?

1,05,000 kms service

1,05,000 kms service over.

Front Brake-pads have already done 65K and will do at-least 5K more, yay!

Service - Rs.955
Wheel alignment - Rs.450
3M Rust prevention underbody - Rs.2,809
1 litre Coolant (for emergencies) - Rs.313

New tyres (4 no.s) Michelin PLC.

Finished a holiday drive to Goa (via Bangalore).
2,750 kms within a week (odo now at 1,08,950 kms).
Civic was 100% reliable and as always smooth as silk!

Would love to say zero problems so far but:
1) Rear-left reading light does not work, may be the bulb was blown.
2) Brake shuddering is starting again, will replace front pads along with discs at next service.

off-topic:
Special Thanks to @laluks (and team-bhp) for the travelogues .
They helped me greatly in planning for the Goa trip.

That's some serious mileage you have extracted from the front brake pads! Guess I will have to learn braking techniques from you. :-)

Could you please update the cost for the Michelin PLC's. Have been hearing that tyre cost have really gone up recently. Also are the tyres the stock size or have you uprated?

re: Honda Civic : Maintenance, Service Costs and Must dos

The myth of service every three or even six months!!!

I have just scanned and uploaded two two pages of the service schedule. With a switch to synth the oil change is also 10000/12 months. So apart for some visual inspections there is nothing left for six months, and also there is no mention of the three months.

I hope this lays to rest the myth of a service every three months, and (even) six months for low mileage drivers like me.
