Throw a bucket of water on all 4 discs and try to simulate the situation by driving & braking. You may get more clues as to why the car behaved that way.

Only the brake pedal shudders when ABS kicks in.

No Arun, there is a lock, unlock happening at the pad to disc side and it also pulsates based on the scene.

Especially on wet conditions, ABS can kick in little early, and these days most ABS devices have a feature called disc wipe, where the logic lets the pads wipe the discs automatically with enough pressure to clean the disc of water and keep it dry at regular intervals, and not enough to feel a braking.

You are correct. They quoted 107K, Insurance paid 67K (you dont get 100% on non-metal components) and my component was 40K inclusive taxes. This is after hard negotiation with HASS. I paid 40K and requested the guy to reimburse me with 25K atleast. He negotiated and is willing to pay 20K. So I lost 20K

I am glad he was a wise guy.

Thanks for the clarification, did not know that. Do you think something like this happened in ram's car leading to the shuddering.

Then it is more likely that ABS is kicking in. It will kick in faster if the brakes are applied too harshly. A warped disc should cause shudder in both wet and dry conditions.

re: Honda Civic : Maintenance, Service Costs and Must dos

BTW had the front and rear pads replaced on the Civic by an FNG (about 3k). The brand used was Roulunds. It's a european brand but also made in Haryana, so less likelihood of being fake compared to Nissin. Everytime I would go to HASS they would pressure me to change the pads and resurface the disks. The pads replacement was quoted at 14K + the cost of skimming the discs. Pearl Honda in GGN seems overtly enthusiastic in replacing things in my car. In my last major service at 60k my transmission and engine mount was replaced. They didn't do anything about the AC even though I raised the issue with them at the major service. Finally had AC looked at FNG too and it was low on gas. Reduces my trust in the dealer a little.

Steering rack repair is being quoted as 4k at my trusty FNG. Before going in for the same, I was wondering if rack repairs are successful without the problem emerging again or is it better to go in for a replacement?

My Civic's rack seals were repaired at Honda for around 12-14k in 2012. Car had done around 40K and touch wood today at ~ 62K they are still fine. Can't say for the Power steering Pump though. It had to be overhauled second time after it was repaired along with the rack.

Replacement should cost close to 50K or more.

Edit: Check my below post.

re: Honda Civic : Maintenance, Service Costs and Must dos

Does anybody have the recommended Wheel alignment values for Civic, especially the readings at the rear?

re: Honda Civic : Maintenance, Service Costs and Must dos

I have 4 Michelin XM2 (205/15/R65) tyres in my Civic which have done around 11,000 kms. The stepney is the original Goodyear NCT (195/15/R65) which is now almost 8 years old and completely unused/new. Now I am looking for options on what to do with this tyre. The options that I have thought of are:

1. Chuck the old tyre and buy another new Michelin XM2 205/65/R15 (can I use this new tyre as a part of the tyre rotation, when i get it done next time)
2. Chuck the old tyre and buy Nankang 205/65/R15 (and save some money in the bargain. Use this tyre only as a stepney)
3. Stay with the GY NCT 195/65/R15 as the stepney (Should I expect any issues using a different sized tyre for some distance in case I need to replace any of the punctured tyre. Also, is it safe to use an 8 year old tyre, even as a stepney).

Look forward to inputs from the experts.

Here you go, readings for both 2006 and 2009 model cars.

Thanks a bunch. Civvy's rear readings needs some attention from the values you've shared. I guess it is not possible to do at the alignment place, but needs a suspension check?
