Re: Honda Civic : Maintenance, Service Costs and Must dos

The best way to check this is to gently insert your civic's key between the mount gap. If it goes in smoothly all good, else if the key does not get inserted between the mount gaps means the mount might need looking into. I suggest you wait for a while and replace mount once you notice there is minimum or no gap

Hi Sumeet thanks for the very fast responses, the key should be inserted hormonally or vertically to check the gap?
Also apart from noise is there any other long term damage to the car or the engine, if i don't change the mount in the short term (let say 3 months)?

Thanks.

Kindly insert key horizontally. 3 months is fine, all you will get is vibrations at the start. Also drive the car gently over potholes which we tend to do any ways.

Re: Honda Civic : Maintenance, Service Costs and Must dos

Aftermarket mounts vary in quality. I got mine for 1900 bucks from a trusty spares shop ( Ghai Motors in Malviya Nagar), two years on, no issues with the mount. Honda had quoted in excess of 8k.

Re: Honda Civic : Maintenance, Service Costs and Must dos

Can anyone point me to the gear ratios of the Civic's manual transmission?

I tried to Google it but ran into a dead end for the Indian version.

I'd appreciate it if the information could be in terms of kph/1000rpm in each gear. Need this info to enter into torque pro obd.

BTW here's how my dash looks with a 7 inch android tablet windscreen-mounted, that I use for media, OBD and navigation:

It's an nvidia tegra note 7 (xolo branded in India; evga in some markets). Picked up for 5k. Can't multi-task too well because of the 1gb RAM, but does the job for me.

Re: Honda Civic : Maintenance, Service Costs and Must dos

@manim; Now it should be obvious to all why the US-EPA rated the Civic AT 1mpg higher than the MT for the Highway. It is the tall gear gearing, 50+kph per 1,000rpm. I must say I quite enjoy that. Typically I get 12kpl plus and have topped out at 18kpl or so once.

Re: Honda Civic : Maintenance, Service Costs and Must dos

True. The taller gearing should definitely aid the FE on a highway.

Off the back of my head though, I'm wondering if the taller ratios further aggravate the poor low end torque of the R18A engine, because the engine tends to slip further out of the power band after each gear shift.

I've never driven an AT civic either, so maybe somebody can add their input here

Re: Honda Civic : Maintenance, Service Costs and Must dos

I'm facing a peculiar problem with my car. The minute I rev it hard or it goes beyond 110/120 there is the smell of burnt fuel inside the cabin irrespective of the AC being on / off or the HVAC being in fresh / re-circulation mode. I had handed her over to the HASS last week for the 35K Periodic service and asked them to check on this. The SA came back today saying everything is ok and I should just try filling her up from a different petrol pump. Has anyone else had this issue ? Any pointers ?

Hey Jatin, Where did you get this done from ? My Power steering rack has a leak, Power Steering pump has to be fixed and Oil is leaking down on floor frequently from Power Steering hose. HASS is looking to bomb me for fixing these three power steering related issues. please help me with the best FNG in Mumbai.

The shifter is pretty nifty, and handles the lower torque very well, by shifting down. The car will not get into 5th till >65kph, that too with a very gentle foot. It will get into the vTec (aggressive cam) quite quickly if you press of the throttle. Of course here the engine sound is divine, but the fuel consumption is nothing to write home about. I have developed a feel, and avoid the vTec mode as far as possible.

I checked on aliexpress, the Honda Civic Engine mounts are also available there, will it be a good option to buy from there?
