what is source of the sound @ rudrah!
planet rocker, the khar khar sound most likely is from the alternator bearing. have them replaced. not an expensive job but takes arond 3 hrs time.

i have Palio 1.2 ELX and there is a screeching sound from the bonnet whenever I start it for the first time in the day or after a long time say 7-8 hrs.
the noise stays for some tijme, say 1-2 KMs.
though the cars performs very well.

Since from 3K KM, one more issue has cropped up in My Palio 1.2 ELX. I did not want to start another thread, to avoid mess in the forum and ease of searching for other members.

Anyway, The problem is like...
When I'm doing ,say, 40 KmPH+ in 3 rd gear or higher speed in higher gear, I hear a distinct clatter from the engine bay if I realese the accelerator. Plz note that i don't keep my foot on any pedals during this period.
The clatter doesn't go away even if the engine is warmed up.
I have checked all fluids' levels and they are ok.

BTW most of the 3K KMs, 90%, are done in long drives only.
eg Mumbai to Jalgaon and return, Mumbai to Sindhudurga and return
in 3 days with 4 adults and boot full of luggage.

Plz advise, I'm worried.

@ Rosario,

No need to sell your car. The problem is probably a wrong connection by the original mechanic, or a malfunctioning sensor, or a relay. Take it either to Bosch or a good auto-electrician.

@ motionfreak,

If the sound comes only when the engine is idling and goes away when accelarator is pressed, it is probably time to set your belts and timing. Get it done at the next servicing.

Cheers,

Hi Rosario

i just bumped across this thread.

The compressor switches on and off depending on the load on the engine.
(I think its load as that is what i have experienced).

example -
With AC ON, If you are doing 30 kph in 3rd gear and you accelerate hard to 80kph in the same gear, the compressor switches off during the period midway as the car needs more power to accelerate.
Once you get to 80 / change gears etc, the compressor switches back on.

Please notice if you have a drop/gain in power when the tick-tick sounds come again.

If that is the case, the mechanism/sensors or whatever that controls the compressor are kaput.

(this is based on my experience of the same)

It's exactly opposite. The never comes at idling, sound comes only when in the car is in motion in 3+ gear and accelerator and clutch pedals are not pressed.

clutch is good...little bit hard..but it's with all palios.

BTW could this be anyway related to alignment? coz my car slightly turns towards right automatically. I'll get the alignment done in this week only.

the car is in the garage and they are going to open the gear box. I'll ask them to check the idle bearing.

Thebiggest problem is...Everything is working fine except that noise. Nothing is broken, nothing is malfunctioning.
No loss in acceleration, no loss in FE , even AC cooling is same.

@motion freak.

Please check your timing belt bearing for the screching noise. because
i had the same problem. it would give an screaching noise early in the morning when i start and would disappear after a few kms. once the bearing is changed i dont have any problem now.check it

Regards
Rosario
