OHC 1.5 Gear /Transmission Oil

Hi Guys,

Need help from fellow OHC 1.5 owners.
I don't have the user manual. Can someone please let me know the grade, and quantity of Gear oil recommended by the company.

Which one are you using ?

Checked the Lancer logs - am using Castrol Protector Series Transmission and Gear oils. Had bought 1 litre dubbas of each. OHC should be similar I guess, but owners will have to confirm.

What? 4 days and not a single response from fellow OHCians ?

Come on, get off your lazy bums, open the manual and let me know. Please.

Thanks Narayan.

I don't take it to HASS, don't trust them. The local garage where i get it done, is guesstimating 2.5 L. Some other mechanic i asked, said 2L. That's where the confusion lies. Don't want to over or under fill.
Also i wanted to know what grade the company recommends, so i could take a look at different brands and choose accordingly.

hey Toiingg, I saw this thread only today, well i checked the manual and in the engine oil maintenance section, the only things mentioned are (typing as found in the manual)
*Always use a premium-grade detergent oil.
*select the proper SAE viscosity oil according to the chart (I can try to take a photo of the chart if you need it)
*always use a fuel-efficient oil that says "API Service SG, SH or SJ"
IN the change oil section I found this.
*Put a new washer on the drain bolt, then reinstall the drain bolt. Tighten it to: 44N.m(4.5kgf.m, 33 ibf.ft)
* refill the engine oil, engine oil capacity (including filter): 3.3 L (3.5 US qt, 2.9 lmp qt)

This is all I found, hope this was useful. Oh BTW I get my oil changed at the HONDA so i dont have a brand.
All the best.

Hey, i saw this thread today as well. I checked my car's manual and agree with johnda.

I use castrol for my car. I'll check on the label for the exact series and post later.

Tejas, please check on the Oil Container if there is anything pertaining to the 'SAE viscosity' based on the chart in the manual.

Oh you mean transmission Fluid! the manual does not mention the quantity of oil needed, Although for grade, the manual recommends {API Service SG, SH or SJ rated motor oil with a viscosity of SAE 10W-30 or 10W - 40 }

I think these specs are for engine oil.transmission oil will be GL rated ,something like API-GL4/SAE 75W-90.

The specks i gave were from the manual, they don't give you a brand all they mention is to get Genuine Honda Manual Transmission Fluid.
Since this is been troubling us, Toiingg Please Update this thread with Brand and Grade after you get the Job done. Thanks.

Thanks Johnda, thats just the information that I was looking for.

I found 2 brands of Gear Oil (both Grade 90) ... Shell costing 130/L and Castrol @ 198/L. I'll be taking 2L and would prolly go with castrol.
