Also tried Torque which didn't work sadly and hence tried OBD Car Doctor.

Might get pro later since free version is working and after I learn to understand the parameters.

Some screenshots...

Hi JKDas,

Apologies, I am new to the OBD/ECU world & need to learn this .
Can you please let me know how to connect OBD Scanner to a tata safari.
Where is the port to connect it? I understand that you have some runtime stats for the car, it means there has to be a separate port. Please let me know where it is?

Thanks
Saurabh.

Re: Cracking the Da Vinci "TATA Safari 2.2l" ECU Code

Do anybody know what version of ECU is installed on Tata Safari Strome. Is it same as Tata Safari Dicor. Have anybody used Autel MaxiScan MS300 CAN Diagnostic Scan Tool for OBDII. Would this work for Tata Safari Storme.

If anybody needs any diagnostic software and hardware from the US let me know, I'm willing to help. Below is a link to a photo album of one of my Panasonic Toughbook laptops.

For TATA Safari I would suggest OBD CAR DOCTOR app, I have seen app very much compatible with TATA where Torque doenst connect.

Also try FUN2DRIVE

Re: Cracking the Da Vinci "TATA Safari 2.2l" ECU Code

I connected using Torque(Lite) and it connected like a breeze and although it didn't show much information which could have helped, it did put out logged DTCs. Any suggestions how could have the software/app put out more info?

Unfortunately, in the 2.2(DICOR) you cannot get much info, however, for storme you can get everything including MAF sensor, intake temperature, boost etc.,
Cracking the Da Vinci "TATA Safari 2.2l" ECU Code-1.jpg

On the older 2.2 dicor I could just get the coolant temperature and load.

Exactly. When I hooked it up, I didn't have the All Data widget set up on the display and I was just looking for DTCs. However, I did note the changes in acceleration and load parameters. I think I'll have to invest in a more professional setup. What hardware/software are you currently using?

Re: Cracking the Da Vinci "TATA Safari 2.2l" ECU Code

I don't know if this is the right thread I should be posting but since it's related to the ECU, I am putting it here...

I have a 2009 2.2Vtt Ex Safari. Recently the 4H and 4L lights started glowing continuously in the dashboard. It began as - they would light up intermittently and then go off. Now this became continuous. And 4x4 was not engaging. I took my SUV to the authorised service station.

At the moment, they have solved the light problem and both 4H and 4L are now engaging. Most probably, they have reset the ECU. They say that if this problem crops up again, ECU needs to be changed which has an MRP of Rs 31000.

I need to ask people 2 things:
1. Is the Safari Main Vehicle ECU and 4x4 ECU the same? because someone told me that 4x4 ECU costs about 1600 only?
2. Secondly, I read in one of the threads on Gearhead that second hand ECUs are available for the Safari. Can you please tell me from where I can get the ECU repaired or buy one second hand?

Anxiously await your replies...

In regards to your first query, I reckon that the ECU for the 2WD and 4WD versions would be the same since 99rpm lists a single one. However, I'd suggest for others to comment on the subject too.

As for the latter part, I'd recommend you to go for a genuine and new ECU since a used one may be busted/malfunctioning which will cause more harm than do any good to the engine and relevant components. Also, the ECU does cost around 27.5k

Hope this helps.

4x4 has a separate extra transfer case ecu under driver seat. Since 4x4s are rare it will be difficult to get one used.

That said when 4x4 lights came on what was the error code. I will put up diagnostic code for 4x4 ecu and how to check on diagnostic manual thread tomorrow
