Ok so its quite a simple job. But then, can it be ignored? Apart from making the steering a bit stiffer, i am guessing it'd also slightly damage the belt if left untreated, right?

Dunno about that. But loose bolts can come off and cause more damage. Better get this fixed. The guys at Tata first tried tightning the AC belt, then the Alternator belt. Finally they took out the AC belt and then listened. The noise still came. They sad if the bolt comes off the Power steering assembly can get severly damaged.

But is loose bolts the only cause of the belt slipping? And does the belt need to be replaced after a certain interval anyway?

Fellas,

Instead of speculating here what is causing the problem , why not take the extra effort and simply get the car checked by a authorised service center ?

As it is , quite a few people here have given suggestions that might help in talking to the service center guys .....

so - take the car to the service station - give a demo of the problem and take it from there.....

cheers

Pankaj, I suggest you go (unless you've already done that) to an authorised service station and sit on their head till you get your problem out.
