Johnny Joint, Theim joint, Rose Joint (rod end bearings).

Friends,

For some of the planned modifications in my Gypsy, I have a huge dependency on the availability of these joints in India.

These joints are required for use on the ends of control rods that I will be building.

Here are some of the details:

Johnny Joint:
These offer 30 degrees of unrestricted movement in any direction as compared to 22 degrees on a common heim joint. Here is their parts:

This is how they look when assembled

Source: Johnny Joint®

Heim Joint/Rose Joint:

Similar to JJ. details here:
Rod end bearing - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Male threaded Heim Joint
(A) the casing
(B) the ball swivel
(C) the opening for attaching hardware
(D) the threaded shaft

The help I need is:
  • Would these joints available in India? If yes, where to look for?
  • If now, then which would be the joints available in India that would come closest?
  • Can these be fabricated in India? If yes what could be such a place?
  • Which other 'joints' or mechanisms can offer the functionality offered by these joints? I would use then at the end of control rods/arms
Cheers,

Never looked for Johnny Joints, but Rod end bearings are available in plenty. Lot of choices in makes and maintenance/non-maintenance etc.

Great. Now where should I look for them (truck market, car market, etc etc..) and what should I ask for?

Also, would be the tentative costs for a rod end bearing.

Cheers,

Cheers,
Do you have a tools/machinery market somewhere around you? Here we have a place called Nagdevi street, where you can pretty much find any tool or part under the sun. Rose joints is most heard of, rod end bearing is it's a fancier shop.

Costs: IKO maintenance-free rod end bearings, 10 mm: About 350 each plus taxes. Maintenance rod ends are about half the price. There are cheaper brands around, also these prices are circa 2007, so they must have changed now.

Wow. Eureka.!!! Got it. I now know where to look for in Bangalore -- SJP road.

If the joints available are able to do what i need, then that would be wonderful and I can start my mod sooner than later.

Dear K_S,
Did you have any luck in finding these joints in India and manage to find out where or in which vehicle or machines they use such joints?
