Team-BHP - Regulations for ORVMs (convex/flat?)

Hello BHPians,

I have been lately curious about the regulations in India pertaining to ORVMs of a vehicle. I bought an Alto Lx in 2007 and was shocked to see that the vehicle did not have Convex ORVMs. I think that convex ORVMs are lot more better than plain mirrors when it comes to judgement. I could only attribute the usage of plain mirrors in an Alto to the car being a low end one. What amuses me more is that in today's time when even a regular Two wheeler comes with two convex ORVMs, how can Maruti make such a glaring ommission when it comes to a car costing almost 3 lacs on road? Manufacturer providing just Right side mirror and not the left one is another topic needing discussion.

Of course, asking for an internally adjustable mirror as standard would be just too much from Maruti.

However, I recently got myself a pair of aftermarket convex ORVMs (L&H) which are internally adjustable too. Believe me, it has made a huge difference for me and now I have started loving driving my Alto, which earlier was always a negelect as I prefered my Santro Xing over it.

I want to make use of this thread asking BHPians for their opinion on this topic and if they are aware of any existing regulations in this regard. Is there anyone who differs and find plain mirrors more useful than the convex? It could just be me finicky about this.stupid:

As far as regulations - im not sure what they are, but thats a good question.

Lastly, its interesting to see how a few rupees spend on a mirror has enhanced your driving experience to the point where you now prefer it over your other car.

For the length of the mirror to affect the view, is the blind spot in the horizontal plane or vertical plane ?

More than a blind 'spot', it is blind 'area'- that is there in both the horizontal & vertical plane.

Mirrors of vehicles are approximately of the same width. But busses being much longer, the length (vertically) of their mirrors is proportionally larger (longer).
