The Sierra!

Since we don't have a dedicated thread just for T-Bhp's Sierra pics, sharing it here.
Hope you all like it. Slowly getting her back to the original glory.

Tata folks should really think about getting the grand daddy back, perhaps with a 2.2 Dicor engine, 4x4 and 5 doors, in the likes of Duster/Ecosport.

Re: Tata Sierra Turbo: Queries

Even as I asked Jeevan about his Sierra yesterday, I saw a very well maintained Sierra today on Bannerghatta Road. A lovely blue color, no modifications except for two sets of aux lights. Personally didn't like the extra lights, but the condition of the Sierra ...

Wish Tata had not let go of the head-start they had got back then. :(

Are you referring to a Metallic blue Sierra with 4 Aux Fog lamps on roof and 2 in the front and over the bonnet? If yes that would be mine. I recently acquired the same and guessing it was with the previous owner when you saw it. Its clocked about 1.4Lac kms and the engine was redone about 30k Kms back. The engine runs fine but need to replace all the pipes/tubes and also clean up the engine, radiator and service the FIP and power steering if needed. I have been reading this thread for the past 4 days to get as much knowledge as possible and it feels like I know all you guys personally after reading so many posts.

I have had a passion for a Sierra since my childhood and used to go and sit in one which belonged to our Ambassador workshop owner. I was fascinated bu the whole design and the door lights and power windows. It was a marvel and a car much before its time. I had always wished to own one. I currently have a Chevrolet beat but the passion for the Sierra had never died. So I looked around, saw a couple of them and their exorbitant price tags and finally decided on this.

I am in Kolkata for Dussera and will be getting my hands dirty once I am back. I have pledged to get it back to its original glory with additional modern day features. There are a whole lot of minor niggles as any of 17 years would have but the best thing is, most of the parts and features are still original and that will help me work from there.

I would need all you guys advice in getting this beast back to glory.

Re: Tata Sierra Turbo: Queries

One more sierra fan and a new owner of a pre-worshipped sierra turbo 97. Bought this today. Immediate jobs required are:
1. The gear lever slips from the 2nd slot upon release of the A pedal
2. Complete AC rehaul is needed

Other suggestions required:
1. A reliable garage for this vehicle in south bangalore
2. Accessory and spare parts shop in JC road area. This is just in case

Hello,

For your AC work, you can go to one guy called Murali (Cool Well) near Ashok Nagar police station in Bangalore. I dont have his phone number right now, but, I'm pretty sure if you enquire about him near Ashok Nagar police station, you'll get results.

His job is very economical and very good. I've had experience with a number of vehicles, with after market and OE fitting.

Re: Tata Sierra Turbo: Queries

Thanks Dhanushs.

Smoke coming out of the oil guage!! what does this mean? At the same time observed that the temperature guage/meter is not working. Any similar experiences.
How simple or complicated it is to fix the temperature meter in a sierra..

This usually means the rings are worn out and the compression is leaking into the crankcase. Time for an engine overhaul.

Pretty easy. Get the temperature sensor and/or meter fixed/replaced. Go to a good electrition.

That Short throw gear lever !

Any plans to revert to original looks ? I dont think the Santro headlamps or that grill do justice to the Sierra

Yes definitely, would like to revert the front back to original looks. I am planning to get this done in 2017 (along with the engine overhaul) when it is time for the FC. But before that the headlamps will definitely undergo a change.

My priorities before Jan-2016 are lined up as follows:
1. Get the headlamps changed (The santro ones fitted in are not the original ones either )
2. Gear box work (2nd gear slips)
3. Put all the electrical's in place
4. Get the door alignment rights (few rattling noises and the window lining need change)
5. Spare tyre (I have the discs)
6. Get the hand brake up (mechanic says its difficult to find the cable as they are very long ones)

PS: I was aware of the all the above expenses when I bought the vehicle and always understand that diesels connect with their owners better than their petrol counterparts
