On the sppedwork's site - OWS Fully synthetic 05W50 is being offered at Rs 675 a litre, 10W40 might be a tad cheaper than this... if that's the case - it's a great bang for the buck...

Special offers from Speedworks, KDM Light Tuning Package

CF rating means - it's meant for Diesel - C= Compression, however the standard itself is old (Introduced in 1994 for off-road, indirect-injected and other diesel engines including those using fuel over0.5% weight sulphur)
On the other hand ratings like SL mean that it's good for Petrol engines
S = Spark

Oh sure - I'd like to know where to get it - but pl make it fast coz I've to give my car for service tomorrow... Was it performance motor sports in Ph 7 Mohali??? Coz he is the distributor for OWS.

after using Delvac MX for an oil change, it was no different. In fact , worse. It sounded worse after an oil change, and engine turned harsh after about 4000k just like castrol GTD. I dont plan to go for it again, especially after my TASC not liking it either.

Will be using GTX diesel this time

They (Tata) charged me Rs.258.75/- per litre of GTX Diesel. (inclusive of tax) What may be the actual market price?

delvac MX set me back about 200 per litre. I have a feeling GTX D should be cheaper in the open market

i guess this means I'll have to shell out 1.5k for the oil this time , as opposed to 1.2 last time

I suggest Castrol RX Super plus - it is a CH4 15w 40 oil, around Rs 250/litre in the larger pack sizes, and does a good job in diesels. Easily available too, I would think.

The choice is not for me to make. My TASC seems to be forcing it down my engine's throat!

I might get hold of some of the synth brew they use for puntos though

As per Castrol website, they seem to claim GTX D to be API CI-4. http://www.castrol.com/liveassets/bp...GTX_Diesel.pdf

My personal choice got better!

So its time for next service at 35k kms and started the hunt for Delvac MX, there was news that it had become really difficult to lay hands on Delvac MX. Called up and proceeded to "Speed A Way" yeah thats the real name as published at the shop, located on Lalbagh Fort road (the road/Jn where we take RT to JC rcoad from lalbagh road), to pick up 3*1 liter cans (yes 1 liter pack available now).

All about diesel engine oils-photo-2.jpg
Was checking the packing date (06/2009) and that when i saw the ratings mentioned! Delvac MX is CI-4 now, last batch i picked up was CH-4, so it got better! 630 Rs for 3 liters (Rs. 248/liter is the MRP).

Delvac Super (MUL recommended tag on can) was available but it was lower rating, so went with MX itself.

They are the Mobil dealer/distributor for BLR, M/S Speed A Way. Phone +91 80 41496502 for any of the mobil products including Mobil 1 super synth, they had 0-40 and 5-50 with them IIRC.

The small red circle is where the shop is (A is lalbagh fort road).

Yup when i picked up CI was not available in BLR, they had only old CH cans available and that too was becoming difficult to find. So thought of updating.

Haven't used it personally, but Delo makes good oils... so should be worth trying out. Anyway, I will mostly be difficult to make out any difference between oils from reputed cos. More important that you use oil of the right specification.

Thank you Raccoon,

As its specifically made for gearbox, I will go for it. I have recently bought Delo 400 10l bucket and once I have the gear oil, I should be ready for the next service..

I was using Delvec MX, Can someone tell me if I need to do a tank flush? I dont have much idea about it, I'm just going to tell GreenTrack guys to do it for me, but let me know if I have to instruct them something specific or take some special care while moving from one oil brand to another..
