What about Motul's 5W40 Crdi engine oil? Would you recommend that for the fortuner? AMSoil is turning out to be a little expensive in the long run.

I have no idea. Just stick with the Toyota oil then.

Re: All about diesel engine oils

Please suggest the suitable engine oil for my friend's Tata Altroz BS6 petrol. Will synthetic oil be advantageous in a turbo engine? Is the 15,000 km really suitable under our hot and harsh conditions?

Re: All about diesel engine oils

I am visiting Mahindra ASS for oil change at 30k KM for my TUV300. I want to do a flush but they don't do it. I recently changed the oil of my Qualis at a Shell bunk where I did the flush. So is it okay to switch out my oil from my TUV with a flush oil (at a shell bunk) one day before I take the TUV for oil change and 30k service? The shell flush was about 1200rs for a 3.5Lit can.

Use the stock Tata oil but change at 10k max especially with city driving.

You don’t need to flush, your engine is not a toilet. Go ahead and change oil on schedule and you will be OK. Don’t allow shell to hard sell rubbish to you.

Will the same apply for BS 6 Nexon petrol too?

BS4 petrol had a different grade while BS6 has 0w20 mentioned in the manual. What is the best oil we can buy for the Nexon petrol to change every 10k kms or earlier.

0w20 acea c5 right? Not easily available in the market, most 0w20 are acea c2 / c3

If you want c5 there’s this excellent oil but be prepared to pay a lot.

Re: All about diesel engine oils

Good evening. After finding no fault with the Castrol 5w-30 Fully Synthetic A5/B5 ordered then (All about diesel engine oils)
I ordered it one more time today, and Amazon sent me API SN+ / ACEA C2 instead.

I must give my car for service tomorrow as I will be hitting the road the day after for an approx. drive of 2000 kms.

I wanted to know from subject matter experts here - can I use this oil instead of the recommended B5 variant? The car is Nissan Sunny Diesel with 95k on the odo.

ACEA C2 has higher specification requirements on engine performance tests over and above that of typical ACEA A5/B5.

Hence C2 can be used in engines/applications calling for A5/B5 but not the other way round.

Besides, the additives package quality and base oil quality requirements of ACEA C2 are generally higher (at higher manufacturing costs) than that of A5/B5.

There's an interesting 5w30 ACEA C3 oil that might be worth a look. Its HTHS viscosity (3.5) is at the upper end of the A5B5 spec (2.9-3.5) - might be a bit more suitable in hotter countries like India.

Fantastic oil, Castrol Edge 5w30 LL.

https://www.amazon.in/Castrol-Edge-5.../dp/B07TWCGNDR

Note - Maximile FEO is much the same spec for a fraction of the cost. (There are manuals for the XUV in Mahindra's European sites, that suggest an equivalent oil to FEO as Valvoline Synpower MST 5w30, which is a C3).

In any diesels such as a Nissan in point, a C3 or A3B4 would be my preference over factory recommended A5/B5 or C2 for stronger components protection.

This is all the more so with occasional trips of over 200 km distance.

My endeavour does very well on Shell HX8 which is 5w30 a3b4 like Castrol LL the C3 one.

The standard Magnatec castrol the service centre uses is A5B5 5w30, quite good but far more suitable for a 8 km change interval.

For BS6 Endeavour, manual says 0w30, but local ford service center has 5w30 and they say it is fine to fill with 5w30 for BS6 model too.

Any suggestions?
