It was in the area where the shoulder meets the base due to a nail. The bubbles were too small which was actually seen only on clear water rather than soap solution.

Why do you need a soap solution to check the puncture? Couldn't they directly immerse the tyre in clear water?

Regarding the machine spanner tightened nuts, I only faced the issue at the time of first puncture. The nuts were factory fitted and tightened to specified torque but I had a hell of a time to take that tyre out. After that, I started doing tyre rotations on my own. I use a long pipe with spanner to unscrew the nut. After rotations, all the nuts are hand tightened only.

I have been facing similar issues with my Brio.

- Heads Up - Honda recommends 29 psi in front and 26 psi at the rear. Apparently, this is suggested to make the back seat ride comfortable given the stiff rear suspension.

- I have been loosing 7-8 psi in two weeks in one of the front tyres, whereas all other 3 tyres gain 1-2 psi in a fortnight (how is that possible, I have no idea !!!). Guess I need to check for a punctured tyre/ valve leakage/ deformed rim.

Slightly off topic, but what do the tyre specialists here on the forum have to say about filling the tyres upto 30psi on all four for Brio? Will it impact FE, tyre wear & tear, ride quality? And if yes, then will it improve? I drive my Brio in the city only.

30 in front - no issue. In the rear 30 will make the car more skittish. That is all.

I had a similar issue in my Fiesta. The left front tire was losing 10 psi over a week, so took it to a tyre shop nearby. The guys found a minor leak and were about to fix it by inserting the filler, but saw that the leak was from a old puncture fix. So they inserted a mushroom type plug after removing the old rubber fix. The tyre is holding air properly now. Please take the car to a shop nearby to diagnose the issue, as running with a differential pressure might cause uneven wear.

Maruti recommends 35 in Front and 33 in the Rear for the Ritz VDi. I fill in 37 and 35 respectively. Will this be a problem in any way?

Atleast till date I feel apart from slightly bouncy ride the handling is good. The car has done 83000 kms in 2.3 years and still counting!:) Does this pressure have any effect on suspension or the likes?

Anurag.

So, finally I decided to get over this tyre issue! Because I am going to hit the highway tomorrow for a 300 km drive.
Backdrop: Been loosing about 8-10 psi every fortnight in one of the tyres in my Brio with Alloys.

Went to the Honda service station (Patparganj, Prime Honda), as I suspected a alloy problem. But thankfully the alloy was fine. The service advisor suggested to check a puncture, as Honda cant treat a puncture in house!

A decent shop was closeby, the guy removed the tyre and used detergent water to detect a puncture (thats a first for me, but its quite effective, the seeping air just puffs up the soapy water at the place of incision). It was a 1.5cm long screw (yes, not a nail) which is now displaced from my tyre after staying there for a good 2 months.

Costed a mere Rs.50

Hope now the repaired tyre can hold good for the highway drive !

My Ertiga is loosing 8 to 10 psi in 10 days from the left front tyre. Got it checked at a puncture shop but the guy was unable to find anything. Puncture repair guy told that it might be leaking air from the valve. So, I got the valve replaced at Rs 375 and drove back home. But the problem is not fixed. Tyre is still losing air. I have to refill air every week now. Any suggestions how to get it fixed?

1. Check for any dents on the rim, do you see any damage/bending/distortion of the rim near the wheel lip.
2. Jack up the wheel and rotate it freely. do you see the wheel moving in a straight line or wobbling/uneven play. may point to minor alignment issues or tyre not fitted properly.

A small suggestion from me . Take a spray can , like the one you get with colin or they sort of bottle they use at hair cutting saloons (hope you get what I am trying to tell ). Fill it up with shampoo water or any other soap solution.

Spray it all over the wheel , on the rims , on the threads , valve etc . If there is any air leak you can spot it easily.

Got the tyre checked at Maruti service center. They used the soap solution method. It was a hard to find leakage. Air was leaking for tyre side wall. There was no nail or scratches. They sent the tyre to goodyear folks for analysis. Hopefully, it should be replaced under warranty as my car is just 3 months old.

Good that the MASS is taking care of it. All possibilities that you got a defective tyre. Are you using steel rim or alloy ? If possible check for any sharp cuts in the rim . I have heard heard that even rim bends can cause air leaks.

Hi Everyone,

I have been riding vespa S for the past 6 months in Pune. My rear tyre has got 15 punctures , and front some 3-4 till date. I normally get the air checked once in a week. I have also gone through the manual and now i keep the advised pressure in both the tyres, but somehow i havent been able to stop this rear tyre puncture.

I have gone through all the reasons(in the thread), but I have got the tyre's valve replaced and there is not any problem in the tyre rim either. Everytime the puncture guys asks if i ride on punctures...but that is not true. Can anyone please advise me on this.

NOTE: I think I have spent more money in the rear tyre puncture than the tyre itself :Frustrati

A question to the experts.

I have Yoko A drives, done around 19.5k Kms. Yesterday, on my way to Mysore, I suddenly felt that the car was making a lot of noise and thought something wrong with the fuel I had just filled at Shell. Drove for around 5-10 mins and then pulled over as the noise was progressively getting louder. The steering felt absolutely normal with NO VIBRATIONS or getting heavy. Hence I suspected something else.

The moment I stepped out, I saw that the front right side had a flat tyre, I mean the air was completely out. I don't think I drove for long after the air was deflated because the tyre was not very hot to hold. It was warm, but not hot. I replaced with the spare and then pulled over at a MRF retail shop to get the puncture attended. What then came as a shocker was that there was a small cut in the tyre(not on the side wall), probably 2-3 mm and when he checked for nails, there were only small glass fragments that popped out. He had no clue how this could have happened, but said I probably drove over a glass object, which then broke on impact and hence the small cut. He said a normal puncture fix would suffice, but I opted for a mushroom one and then used the same tyre for the remaining journey for around 250kms. The tyre is holding well so far.

The question though is, will a glass piece cause the tyre to cut? I had filled air(Nitrogen) last week at 33PSI so they were not running low on air. Is that tyre good to use? The shop guy was confident that the tyre has no issues and I did not find anything wrong on my visual inspection. If a glass piece can cause this, then driving over shattered window glasses, that we often see on roads is also a cause of worry? or is it not? Please advice.

It can, did you drive over accident spot with glass pieces dropped all over? Its just your luck. May be small pieces stuck, and sub sequent heavy breaking it might caused the damage. Can you recall any tire locking during the journey. The gap might expanded after full air leaked.

Nitrogen shouldn't make any difference in your situation. Problem is you can't figure out if Air is leaked while you are driving, till it goes very low.

No issue as long as patch is done properly. I am using tyre more than 15K kms after Mushroom patch.

It was a early morning drive, no broken glasses anywhere but couple of construction sites that I drove over, thinking I may have gone over something at those places. No sudden brakes either.

Thanks, this does give a little confidence. Will check the tyre regularly for anything suspicious.
