Has anybody tried this in an Esteem?
One issue is that the vents in the Esteem can't be closed totally. Can this be a problem?
Would really like to try this out, since the AC in my Esteem isn't cooling that well.
If someone can post readable pics of the Gulf can... esp. the backside, it would be really useful. :)

Yes!! This totally works. I recently cleaned my AC vents and also the cooling coils. There were lots of debris there which were obstructing the proper air flow. Now, that all is sorted out the cooling has really improved. Great post.

Can you tell us how exactly you cleaned the cooling coils??

Yes, even I have the same question!
A friend of mine recently changed his AC gas. Previously the brand was unknown but now he's put in DuPont. Now the cooling is amazing. I'm thinking of doing the same too. Hope this helps you guys too.

Got a can delivered at home by the Gulf distributor, few days ago. After trying it out in my Esteem, I discovered -
1) The foam never reached to the vents where... the can got over before that happened!! Could it be that the distributor gave me a partly used can? There was no seal on the can, so I can't know if it was used.
2) I saw a swarm of ants near the A/C inlet duct, (after a day or two) which is below the grill under the front windscreen! :Shockked: It seems the sweet kinda smell of this stuff attracts ants... beware guys! I sprayed a very small amount of Mortein there, and the ants vanished. Haven't see the ants there after that. As you use the A/c the smell seems to diminish... so it seems it dosen't attract them anymore. Never saw any ants from the inside of the cabin though.
3) The can sold to me was Manufactured in 2006 and made in Italy. It did not have any expiry date. I was told that there is no newer stock... so I decided to try it out anyway.
Anybody had similar observations?

Thats interesting. Could it be that like everything else in this holy land, even A/c gas is also adulterated? Anyways, any idea where you can buy genuine DuPont gas? The gas used in my car was also from a small unnamed cylinder.

Raccoon,
It is quite possible that the distributor gave you a partially used can. In fact, one can is sufficient for two uses. These cans move fast and if you got a can with a 2006 mfg date, it is definitely old stock. Why don't you try another stockist/retailer?
As for the ants, I have never experienced it on any of my vehicles in the past. I'm surprised this happened to you.
Cheers,
gpa
Actually, thats why I decided to try it out... as I found the price (MRP on importer's sticker: Rs. 410) a bit too high just for a single use/car. Its really pissing off - these importers should really put some kind of seal on their products!
I got the can from the distributor who called me up after I emailed Gulf Oil. I have never seen the product in any shop. So I don't have any other source to buy it from.
Anyone know how I can get a can or two in Mumbai? No one seems to know of the existance of such a product

Same problem here dude... contact Gulf Oil thru their website and ask them. They are very responsive.

Hehe... just a very short burst of Mortein Cocroach killer spray. Thats from the outside (not from within the cabin!)... under the grill which is below the front windscreen. And it worked. Also, I'm now using the A/c only in recirculation mode... so I don't really expect that to get sucked into the cabin. How else could I have gotten rid of those pesky ants? :(

Thanks I've just shot them a mail.
Also Mortein and other insecticides are organophosphates. These compounds break down over time, so as long as it's been around a day there is no issue of a bad smell or chances of poisoning occurring.
Cheers
^^^ Yes... but my main concern was that it might react with something where I sprayed it. I guess it dosen't... or at least its not apparent. The quantity sprayed was way too small to cause any bad smell or poisoning even if the AC was used in the fresh air mode.
Btw, I'd appreciate if you could tell me what price they quote for the AC Neutralizer. :)

Same problem in Palio - any solution? Don't want to celebrate Christmas in my car!!
^^^ After using it, I did not find it to be a problem. In fact the foam did not come right upto the grills. I'm wondering if they sold me a partially used can. Anyway, you can try it out... it will work even if the vents dont close.
the vents can probably be removed to facilitate easier cleaning. In my indica, they are held in place by spring clips
Another equipment added to the list for car cleaning Sunday. Normally it was water and painstakingly rubbing each nook and corner. This is more like it.
Where can I lay my hands on this?
