Swift Diesel owners – Advice reqd on service / part costs.

Hi team,

My Uncle is willing to buy Swift Diesel VDi ( despite of long waiting period on Mumbai ), he is worried about spare parts costs because of diesel, As of now he drives Zen, Jan 2003 model, he services his vehicle every 5000km which includes changing of Oil filter, air filer , engine Oil change and Diesel wash , this sets him back by 1300/1400Rs , he wanted to know how much swift diesel will cost for same kind of general service, Break up would be great help

Thanks
Jitendra

i have had three general (so called free) services and it has costed me about anywhere between 150-500 bucks max for other costs. i have had no issues with this car so far and i have finished 16,500 kms as of now. the spare parts of diesel cars may be higher, but with swift D its turning out to be a situation where I dont have the need to take the car to the service center at all ever for whatever reasons.

Hi,

Please go through this thread.
http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/long-t...e-part-ii.html
You will find the expense breakups of few people including me up to 20,000 kms for the Swift Diesel.

oil filter costs between 200-300(every 5K)
fuel filter is costly, 800-900(every 10K)

changing the oil filter with the oil every 5K is a good practice.
but fuel filter being changed every 5K is overkill and expensive.

the air filter, I'm not sure of, since I have a reusable green wind installed.
but I think its less than 300. please confim.

I just completed the 20K service- came to 3400, of which,800 was the fuel filter, 300 of the total was extra for front suspension overhauling(no defects found)
all fluids were changed- brake, transmission, engine, radiator
I thought, for the work and materials used, the service was good VFM
of course, the diesel swift will never be as cheap to maintain as a zen, unless you factor the fuel costs.

I'm not sure what the petrol engine oils cost these days.
mineral oil from mobil(Not synthetic) formulated for diesels, of which you will need 3.1 litres, costs between 170-280Rs/litre.

all this means your uncle will spend Rs1500 more over the zen, per service.
which translated to the cost of petrol, is-roughly 30 litres.
he has to decide if its worth it.

Jits,

I hope this helps. I may be able to give you the individual part costs in a day or two but this will help you in gauging the services costs at every 5000 kms.

The air filter change, brake oil change and wheel rotation during the 4th paid service for Rs5200 (which is exhorbitant) were avoidable, I believe. At 15000kms I cannot dream of such jobs for a small car like the Swift. An average of Rs 1500 to Rs 2000 per service for the Swift Diesel is OK.
In 2005, we paid nearly Rs 6200 for a paid service of our office Qualis (2004 model)which should be OK for the SUV that had run nearly 20,000 kms

Air filter is about 250 bucks + tax, needs to be changed every 20k. Oil filter also about the same, changed only at 10k intervals(service interval recommended by maruti).

Fuel filter costs about 900, needs to be replaced at 20k.

A normal 10k service would be about 1000-1500 bucks, the 20k service, about 4000 bucks. Agreed it might be slightly higher than Zen, but then it is a diesel car, costing more than the zen in the first place. Do not be penny wise and pound foolish, that's all I can say.

Hi Jaggu,

I recently changed the gear oil and engine oil, as a voluntary measure. I was billed Rs.525 for engine oil (Mobil Delvac Super 1300 15W40 - 3 litres) and Rs.348 for Gear oil (90EP - 2.6 litres)

Though the engine oil price is pretty close to your statement, gear oil pricing is too low in my case. Is that the A** used a wrong spec gear oil in my Swift D ?

- Karthik.

The only extra was 600 bucks worth Engine flush. 900 odd is the diesel filter change. Plus 650 as service charges. Will put up the detailed bill in the evening.

@Anjan: all this happened in the 15k service.
