Engine losing power in Vista MJD

I came across this weird problem in my Vista MJD Anniversary edition when on a long drive sometime back.

When above 70 kmph, The car loses all power for few seconds. It is as if the gear has been shifted to neutral with no acceleration. The car gradually loses speed for few seconds before getting back to normal.

It happens intermittently but always above the speeds of 70 kmph. Once it happened 4 times in a trip of 120 kms, on return trip it did not happen at all and once again today, on the same trip it happened once.

This problem has left the service people scratching their head ( I actually didn't expect much from them either)... Anyone on this forum has experienced this problem ? Is their a solution to this ?

Was this happening with AC on? A wild guess; Could it be due to the AC thermostat cutting in and out?

Maybe I did not get this problem at all. How do you know that the engine is loosing power? Is it by looking at the speedo or is the difference perceptible enough for you? The confusion here is because of your statement

What happens if you press accelerator at this time? Does the engine revvs freely like in neutral? Or is it that you do not feel that happen at all(as in free revving) even if you press the accelerator?

My suspicion is that it is an electrical/electronics problem. Your meter is probably creating an illusion for you.

Also, are you sure that your clutch is not heating up too much?

Akhilesh I understand your problem. I too faced the similar problem in my Swift DDiS, but only when the AC was on. But after the service last week, the problem is no longer there.

On speedo Car is losing Speed. Personally too, I feel that engine loses all rev power. If I further press the accelerator, Nothing happens, car continues to lose speed.

It is certainly not an illusion and I know it for sure because the speedo only problem happened in my Palio 1.6 Sport. Here, Car actually loses power and speed.

Highly Unlikely. I fill up at my own fuel station

Hope you also noticed the temp indicator at that time, was it normal ??

If not for heating, this can happen for multiple reasons.

- Check for water in the sedimenter
- When was the last time you changed your fuel filter/ Air filter
- EGR valve sticky or faulty

If under warranty, ask them to change(FF/EGR/AF), if not clean (EGR/Sedimenter/AF)

PS: Forgot to ask, was it happenning from the beginning or came up later, if later, you might first want to reset your ECU.

I think your problem is in turbocharger. This problem occured in swift lot of times now in Vista this is surfaced. This might be a problem with all fiat MJD engines.

Do you keep engine idle for 30 seconds after starting and before shutting? Because this is must do for Turbo charged engines, otherwise you may face problem in turbocharger.

Was the fuel filter changed during the service?

It happened in my vista few times. especially when the speedo was at 60 km and the car was in 4th gear. I felt as if car is not gaining any speed even after accelerator was fully engaged. after few seconds leave the accelerator and then press again car gains speed. there was no indicator light on panel. i did not observe temperature. next time it happens i will observe temp

no free revving sound was observed. it happened before third service.

question. Was the needle at the point where both the engine fan and the compressor fan both cut in ( big fan sound?) At that point, engine is slowed down, and if AC is on, severely.

Did the happen when the sun was up ( ie air is not cool)
