@all - Thanks for the information. I have changed the oil to the appropriate specs. I have changed to Castrol Magnatec 10W-40 API SM grade.

@CPH - Why is this not so good ?I found my engine smoother than the Shell Helix that I had used earlier ?

One more question. I am changing the gear oil too. The specs say EP 80 GL-4, however all the Extreme Pressure Manual gear oil that I see are in EP90 GL-4. I have checked HP/ BP/Castrol. Any issues if I put in EP90 instead of EP80 ?

FIAT recommends 15W40 API SG or higer on Palios. Not API-SM,nor 5W40.

Today my Civic showed minimum level of engine oil on the dip stick. As I wanted to top up, I called Honda service and they recommended Idemitsu 10W30 oil. As I couldnot get one, I used Veedol 10W30 SM grade oil.

Is it ok to use the car now? Can we use a car using two engine oils of same grade from different manufacturers?

Firstly, diesel engine oils never have an API S* rating. They have API C* ratings. Secondly, i say that additional detergents might harm a new engine. An old engine would have enough carbon buildup to be taken care of.

Dude, API SG or higher means, API SM included, FYI. And absolutely no harm in using a 5w40 in place of a 15W40.
