Baleno Air intake

Hi guys.
Had to remove the air intake of my baleno today to be able to access the Headlight bulbs ( I have upgraded to 100w for the monsoons) and was a little confused by the design.

As it is i was trying to figure out the flow,
For those of you who have one, there is a "scoop" in the front of the airbox, which thenleads into the wheel whell, then from ther back into the airbox!!!
(Sorry no pics, i cant find my camera docking port!!!)
any idea why its so convoluted?? why not have the opening straight into the airbox since the airbox and the scoop are attached together.
Why is it routed the long way around?
Any ideas

rant:
and why the hell are the lights so inacessible
had to take half the car apart to reach the lights

Yup, that is a wierd design.

In the OHC the intake pipe starts just before the front right suspenssion and has the box behind the engine.

Ok Guys, i have decided that the K & N under my bed needs to come out,
Now what i need is some advice on the install,
I was planningto do a complete cold air intake setup,
But cash flow problems are kinda hampering that idea.
So, i thought that i'd just bolt on my Universal K&N conical filter

Any ideas on how i can minimise the Hot air from the engine bay coming into the filter??
i was planning to route it to the location of where the airbox is currently

Iceman- any advice

Thanks Iceman,
Well the K&N is now well and truly bolted on!
there is a definite change already, but the sound is very muted
compared to the lovely roar it used to give in the matiz!

That looks like an intake resonator. Where its stops, its blocked off.

Yup, the 2nd pipe is blocked off at the bottom. but, what exactly does a intake resonator do?

Its supposed to quieten the intake roar of the engine. On 2-stroke bikes it was claimed to increase power and cure flatspots (the infamous RTZ "power-box" and later both Shogun and RX-135). Dunno how much of that was true.

When you do a CAI, usually you throw away the resonator and then you can really hear the intake noise. I think Zen was the first car with one. That one was shaped like a small square box.
