fiat palio 1.9 d help needed

i use a 2005 palio1.9d elx.. She have clocked 67k kms successfully without a single hiccups.. recently i face a serious issue.. i need you peoples expert advise on it... "I crank the engine, she roars instantly, no issue, but on idling i see the rpm meter going up and down like there is some kind of knocking... If i start driving, in all gears i can feel the knocking... it jerks occassionally and the worst thing is, while cruising, on any gear if i take my foot off the clutch for more than say 5 seconds, the check engine light is shown and accelerator is suddenly dead like, it will respond only when i press it hard and suddenly stops responding at all.. engine is holding the idling, not going off, but no response from pedal.. And this complaint comes only once in a while, according to the service people, frm my experience, for every kilometer, i have to stop and restart... all service people from kerala, tvs, rf, concord could not find a solution for the same.. WHAT CAN IT BE????

1) This thread should be in this section :
Technical Stuff - Team-BHP

2) Either something is wrong with fuel delivery, or ignition. Get your car completely checked by A.S.C. Cleaning injectors, etc. will be done, then further analysis will help IMHO>

Fuel pump caliberation required I guess. The best way to understand that the fuel pump requires caliberation is when the fuel pump light(Red one) in the instrument cluster does not go off after a few seconds after turning on the ignition and you start the engine..the symptoms are the ones you mentioned in your post.

It may require de-carbonisation of combustion chambers or cleaning of injectors. Did you ever do this before during your regular services ?

I am quite late in answering your query. I trust your problem is solved. In case you get such problem again, just get your EGR cleaned.

Re: fiat palio 1.9 d help needed

Re starting this thread as I'm facing a similar issue to what drnibu has mentioned. The Check engine light goes on in my 2004 Palio 1.9D once in a while while cruising 60-80kmph in 5th gear. Once I turn off the engine and restart, its gone, but again resurfaces when cruising. It doesnt happen when I'm driving in lower gears.
I got the scan done, cleared all errors in the scan, but its still occurs while cruising. Some mechanics say its just a problem with electricals and some say there may be problem with the Fuel Pump, but I dont understand why the fuel pump is having problem only in 5th gear. If I rev hard and go 70+ in 4th gear the problem doesn't occur.

I took the car to IGNITE on ECR, but they do only the palio petrol job and not the 1.9D and he said it may be a problem with the pump or electricals.

Can some of the gurus on this forum advice me on this or suggest me a Palio 1.9D specialist in chennai or outskirts.

Re: fiat palio 1.9 d help needed

What exactly happens when the injection failure light comes on? is there a loss of power? does the car show any signs of fuel starvation?

number of people with 1.9Ds on the forum has come down, i guess.

The owner manual doesn't give any concrete reason for it, but do check this out, atleast the last line.

there can be dirt in the fuel filter / water in diesel (is there any indication for the same?) any other signs of the car not running normally?

Thanks planet_rocker. There doesn't seem to be water in the fuel. Should get the fuel filter checked.
The car when cruising at 50+ speeds, I feel a mild fluctuation in the acceleration. ie its a bit oh up & down with no change in throttle. But the rpm meter does not go up & down. Its very mild.
This fluctuation doesn't happen in lower speeds.

you can get that checked. Modern diesel cars come with a Water in Diesel warning - so does the 1.9D

if you haven't yet replaced the Fuel Filter, please do so and see if the problem occurs again. It is hardly a 5 mins job.

Also DIY and open the air filter box and see the condition. it can even be bad fuel.

Good that Ignite did not accept your car for work!!

Please PM member Vijaycool on the forum. There is a mechanic by the name Murugan, just off OMR. He is pretty good with palios, and should be able to help yiou out.

I once faced this problem in my Palio 1.9D (I no longer own it, sold three years ago and I regret now!) while traveling on highway. But soon as I refilled the tank it vanished. It was for quality of fuel. In case you are seeing the injection system light recurrently getting on while driving, please get the injectors cleaned. Dirt in injector sometimes blocks delivery of fuel, particularly in 4th and 5th gear when requirement is frugal and it is further reduced by the blockage. If the problem lies there and you get the injectors cleaned, you should also notice improvement is overall performance and fuel economy.

At the same time also get the EGR (Exhaust Gas Re-circulator) cleaned when you go to workshop.
