Thanks, n-w!

Yes, I too had been getting my service done there and had recommended to friends, too. But saw that they had too many cars and not sufficient people to attend. So I have now switched over to another T.A.S.S. at Phugewadi. The workshop owner tells me that he has already planned for an exclusive workshop for Fiat opposite to B.U.B. at Wakad. Let me see how it works out.

BTW, I will check the manual about the oil required and will get back.

Long time back, before the advent of the 2T oils in India, immediately after engine overhauls mechanics used to mix an oil known as upper cylinder oils (branded) available from fuel stations with petrol at 30 ML per 10 litres. This was, perhaps, for ensuring lubrication to the new engine valves before they crack and get set.
Perhaps today 2T oils would give the same results.

Guys,

Any reference to a good and reliable service centre in Bangalore for Palio 1.2 Petrol car? I am not satisified with Green Tracks or Concorde at Kudlu Gate, Hosur Road.

Praneeth - I have the same problem in my Palio 1.2 - When I pressed the clutch completely to change gears, the engine switches off some times but no everytime. I have given it to KHT Motors to figure out the problem. The consensus is that it is an ECU issue - I have given it to 3 separate motors and all have alluded to this. The A/C also started giving a problem. When they checked with a spare ECU, they figured that the A/C problem vanished.

Just get the ECU check done at a FIAT service station to see if this is because of the ECU. The related electrical problems could also be because of the ECU and not wiring (As in the A/C problem in my car). Keep me posted.

Anyone from Pune know where I can source used head lamps (motorized) for my Palio 1.2 ELX? I also need the rear bumper.

The showroom rates are extremely high.

I have faced this problem very rarely, i guess it happens soon after the ECU is reset because of a disconnection of battery. A couple of high rpm runs solves this issue.

But anyway just get this rectified if it happens very often - you don't want engine to shut off while changing gears amidst and overtaking session right?

Right when I had planned to start hunting for a used Palio (preferably a 1.6) for myself, this thread appears.

@npraneethreddy

Hope these issues get sorted out soon. Do post all the expenses in this thread so that I have a fair idea of palio's maintenance costs.

As I'll be joining a college now in a different city I do not wish to take my Baleno along. A good hatch with adequate power is all that I need.

Zen/Altos are quite boring now and I have a 800 and an Alto which I have no intentions of using.

Hence, it all boiled down to a used Palio. But am skeptical about the maintenance.

We have had a Uno petrol in the past but we sold it long ago so am not aware of Fiat's after-sales.
Usually such issues as mentioned in these threads never crept up in the cars my family has owned with the exception of Ford Escort.

Sorry for going Off Topic, but as an owner of a Palio will you recommend a used Palio? Keeping in mind that am not keen on spending time and money dealing with various issues like these.

In short, Is it just a one off case or is the reliability of Palio a suspect in comparison with the usual bunch of hatchbacks?

PS--My post and my calling Palio's reliability a suspect is a mere query and I absolutely do not mean to offend any one here. If everything goes right I too may join the Palio club within a couple of months.

Regards.

Every other car has issues and issues threads like this So this should not be the reason for you not to buy a used Palio. I'll recommend a used 1.6 if you are a driving enthusiast. I would not recommend a 1.2 because I don't find enough justification for one to buy a used 1.2, he can very well go for a used Santro or anything.

I own a 1.2, 4.5 years now and I have no intention of selling the car though.

Since most of the Palio owners love their cars, they take good care of the cars and every minor or major issue will be taken up and discussed in such forums in good detail, and that will make a casual reader overwhelmed and may be it will make people think why this car is having complex issues like these

True. 1.6 is the one am looking for. Baleno has spoiled me. So it shall be Palio 1.6 or Zen+G13+suspension mods. If both of these do not materialize then I'll look for a 1.2 in a decent condition (Only because frankly I have had too much of Jap cars).

Yeah. I had thought about it. Not only Palio owners, most of tbhpians discuss minor niggles (even I do ).

Thanks for the prompt reply and coming from a bhpian plus a Palio owner, its surely somewhat of a relief.

Regards.

Even the 1.2 can be good to drive, with some performance mods - air intake + exhaust?

I just got semi-synthetic oil filled in my car last week, and the engine is so much more rev happy and thus the (underpowered) car is bit more fun to drive now.

Re: FIAT Palio 1.2 - Issues

the palio sometime back (2 year's ago) suffered a dent on the petrol tank.
Since then the fuel indicator started showing false values.
The fuel tank is empty when the indicator is above the end of fuel line.

The value's now completely going haywire. Sometimes the fuel indicator shows half tank and all of a sudden the yellow low fuel indicator comes up.
I asked the fiat service regarding to why this is happening, he said my fuel control chip is damaged and needs replacement(16k???).

any solution to this issue?
or i should go for a cheaper solution such as scan guage to check out my fuel consumption?

Re: FIAT Palio 1.2 - Issues

my palio is manily used for long drives, most of the days it just stays in the building's parking only. It gets on the road once in two weeks for some grocery shopping or a visit to relatives, always less than 20KM return trip.

I am an avid fan of FIAT since the UNO days ( my fav car), but sadly i know very little about cars.

The problem is my car is producing some noise when I turn in reverse gear with full lock ( either side).
The noise comes only when the steering wheel is fully turned. last week I did a trip from Thane to Nashik and back. The car performed well except while full lock reverse. but again I've very less experience in cars. ( I'm a noob, when it comes to cars)

My friend ( who had stile 1.6, automobile engineer) says it's the sign of axle wear out and I need to change both axles and boots. but he hasn't driven my car since the problem started.

The car has run 55K Kms and is 2002 make.
Also I use 195/55 R15 tubeless (NCT5) tyres with alloys

do axles in such condition affect car's performance and safety?
do axles fail in 50K?
Can you give me some idea about the cost of changing them with labour charges?

I ask for this info coz I believe my garage owner might overcharge me for this. It is the only garage, in my vicinity, which repairs many Fiats.
Does this job requires Fiat specialist or any garage can do this?

Please pardon my automotive terms, I don't know many.

Thanks a lot in advance. Please help.
