I need the car for a long drive in the next month

Any mechanic can change the axle aka drive shaft. but if you experiencing the kat kat only at full lock, then you can use the existing drive shafts till you get the kat kat noise while driving in straight line. but while turning don't power up the car. try to sail while taking turns or just use clutch while taking turns. it will extend the drive shaft life.

He must be referring to the lower arms. The symptom for a problematic lower arm is a pronounced tak tak sound when the car moves with a fully turned steering. I think it should cost you something around 3.5K each.

Thanks guys. so i'll postpone the surgery :)

Palio Question
I bought a pre owned Palio 1.2 a few months back. I want to know the spark plug specs, as i plan to change them at the next service.
The manual says Champion RC8BYC for the 1.2 and NGK BKR5EZ or Champion RC10YCC for the 1.6.
I prefer NGK over champion, i need you valuable suggestions on which one to go for. Thanks!

Hi Ripper .. i noticed that you're in Mumbai. Which service station do you use for your Palio and are you satisfied with their service ?
Thanks in advance for the info. Cheers

@revvhead: I take my car to a local mech (in malad). I just get the oil , filters, brake pads etc changed from him. for anything else i visit Nakita motors in Bandra.

champion copper plugs are far better than NGK copper plugs, champion plugs have more pickup & dissipate heat faster & hence engine is cooler, NGK's have an edge in PLATINUM,IRIDUM plugs....

stick with RC8BYC or go for NGK equivalent BKR6EKC

You can goto New Mars in Moosapet. Mr Prabhu, the owner, can help you out. You can also try Concord but they will check the wirng seriously only if there's any existing problem with the wiring.

What kind of issues are you facing with your wiring ? Mutiple issues like indicators not working + wipers not working + headlights could be related to a single part i.e. Combination switch.

Hi Guys,

Mahadev at SV Cartech at TC Palya near Koshy's Hospital is the place you go to for all FIAT related cars... he is trusted & does the JOB well & has know FIAT cars since Sundaram times.... contact Mahadev @9 6 6 3 3 6 5 7 2 4

another alternative is KHT motors, a FIAT A.S.S...

another piece of advice... never go to Venkatesh of GOWRI automobiles... he is a BIG CHEAT... BIG TIME....

There are many dependable service centers in Bangalore - both Tata/Fiat as well as independent. Depends on which one you prefer and which one is closer to you. I live in South Bangalore and had been getting good service from Green Tracks in their glory days. Now, I prefer Prerana(Tata/Fiat) on Kudlu gate, Hosur road. The Concorde(Tata/Fiat) next door is equally good (from feedback). Never experienced KHT or CarTech, but both have good feedback from owners. Concorde on Mysore road also seems to be good. Mixed feedback from Gowri and some bad ones lately.

Thnx BeJoy,
I live in Vasanth Nagar - anything close by would help. But if the guy is good, don't mind the extra travel

I think his name is Madhav. I strongly recommend SV Cartech. They are very knowledgable, honest and hardworking. They do not take short cuts and tell you upfront what can be done and what cannot. Their charges are very competitive.

Hi bhpians,

I have a 2002 Palio Elx, done 28K kms. An effort for some TLC has turned around to an extent.

The car performance had dropped marginally after the service, essentially a wash. Yes, the ECU & ignition coils were religiously covered, since the service station person had burned his fingers once. Yet there is an ounce of performance drop I am experiencing.

Got the AC serviced since the cooling was low. There is a considerable performance & FE drop when the AC is switched on. The cooling has not improved much, which I am getting it checked by the AC person.

Feel the car was better without the servicing.

Also can someone help with a mechanic who 'knows' FIATs in South Mumbai.

Regards,
Kavesh
