My friend just got a pre-owned Ikon Flair. Model : 2005 May. 1.3 Rocam Engine. He asked me to help him out as it was his first car and had selected his one after seeing lot of Ikons. The engine and underbody and everything was good, we did test drives but dint get to test it at speeds. Since the sellers place was a congested area we could only go upto 40 kmph. This weekend we took the car on a long drive of about 500 kmph. It was really good but for a humming noise from the rear left wheel at speeds between 60 and 80 kmph. There is no noise before 60 and after 80. He's gonna take it to MPL Ford tomorrow.

Any inputs?please:

jokes aside, it may be something like a bent rim or just simply a normal tire noise. or wheel alignment. has he tried changing that particular wheel to the spare? that may give an indication of the problem.

Get the wheel bearings changed.

you might want to check your tires or the wheel bearing/alignment. does the pitch in the humming vary while you take turns. If so then earlier mentioned ones might be the culprit. Is it a humming sound or a rattle. If its a rattle then you might need to check on the clamps for the silencer or some loose joints somewhere.

Going by your mention of humming sound, it seems to be an issue with the wheel bearings. Get them checked. How much is the total mileage on the odo?

+1 to that. Thats what I feel too. If the car is 2005 I guess it would be over 35k kms. The bearings give way at about 40K so thats a strong possibility.

Yes..You guys are spot on. The car has run 45k kms. My friend jus called me. The guys at MPL ford told him that the left wheel bearing has to changed. Would cost him 3.5k. Reasonable?

Yup bearing will be 2.8k and rest labor, this was 4 years back :)

Will it be cheaper if done outside ? i think yes.
if car is not in warranty you can check at other options too

I got the right rear bearing replaced in non-A.S.S for 1.4K inclusive labour, 15 days back.
