Foul Smell from Blower / Fan / HVAC

I've noticed when I use the car a/c, always after having used and then stopped the car for a little while, on re-start the a/c gives off a weird sour smell for some time. I need to open the windows for a couple of minutes before it gets ok.
Is it due to any air-filter in the Baleno a/c that needs cleaning perhaps?

Xtreme Torque,

Yes, I had the underbody rust treatment done.
And yes, I notice a damp/moist smell when I take the car out in the mornings.

Any relation?

Is the AC set to recirculate?

If so, the smell is possibly what your car interiors smell like, to an extent. Some cleaning & freshening up may help.

If the AC is set to draw in fresh air, then there may be dead leaves or vegetation that may be stuck in the inlet vent area.

Yes, it happens in many new cars...don't worry, it'll go away after a few months
Dunno the reason, perhaps some chemical residues in the AC vent...
I had the same issue on my Corsa when it was new, but the smell went away in 1-2 months

yes xezas, there is a relation. because when the underbody treatment is done, some of the liqid does make its way upto the ac chambers. Hence the smell. Dont worry, it'll go away after sometime. Or you could get the a/c filters and the ac system as a whole flushed. Costs approx. Rs.350.

For me the case is different ! we bought a brand new lxi white Baleno and everyone was praising the airconditioner. The very next day (a day prior to the team-bhp kerala meet) the A/c went kaput..took it to the dealers and they informed the compressor unit is not workin...well had to give the car for 3 days and now its back in health.

What kind of foul smell? Could be something organic. It is very difficult to diagnose over the internet, the service centre is your best bet.

Looks like you got bacteria growth. Try using the AC on full hot for 10 min to kill it. Also buy air con neutraliser spray avaialble in some petrol bunks

Could be a dead something in your motor unit. The smell would not come ordinarily unless the fan pushes out the odour along with the air. Had the same problem with a dead lizard in my Cielo a long time ago.
