Any ideas to improve car safety?

Why not have hydraulic or pneumatic chambers built into the chassis, bumpers and potential impact zones of a car in order to absorb the impact in case of a collision by leaking out the fluid or air through valves.I mean to say that this should be incorporated into the space frame structure of the car .The idea is to protect the occupants and the car better and absorb the collision more effectively in a less destructive way.One more feature which could be added is that the pressure of these chambers to be dynamically controlled depending on the intensity of the collision and the pressure maps could be arrived at with the help of crash tests. What do you say guys?Technical gurus waiting for your inputs.

Well dont crumble zones , Collapsible plastic bumpers and bonnets which fold like paper now a days do the same that is absorb the impact and prevent the occupants.
About pneumatic chamber there are few examples such as airbags.

Hydraulic chambers would increase the weight cost decrease fuel efficiency and probably that's why no one used them.

@amitk26,Crumble zones cannot be callibrated according to the collision intensity but using the Hydraulic or pneumatic stuff they can be electronically controlled based on collision severity and hence minimising the damages both mechanical and personal injury. You are right.Hydraulics add to the weight of the car.But pneumatics systems are lighter. The function of airbags is to protect the occupants from the caving in of the cabin and act as a barrier. The safety system i propose is something which will act at the collision front itself and minimise impact to the vehicle. This in turn will minimise the impact on the other vehicle also.

Cost man cost.!! cost of development, cost of implementation.

we live in a world where ABS and Airbags are considered optional accessories. Think about it.
