Had a look at the parts again - and yes, there are signs of damage on the splines of the intermediate shaft.

I don't remember taking any underbody hit, but under full load on badly-designed humps, the car has scraped the underbody a few times. Plus ofcourse it has done quite some travel on the under-work OMR, when it was full of craters.

@supremeBaleno: Being an ex baleno owner I still admire the car a lot and I take interest in all Baleno related discussions in the forum

During my last visit to the MASS I asked the SA about any similar cases being reported. He said he came across a KL01AHXXXX vehicle (should be a 2004 model) which had reported the same issue.

Could be that a particular batch of Components that had the issue.

Re: Baleno issue : Could a stitch in time have saved me 9K or more ?

I am getting a khat khat sound when I turn the steering sharply & on a bad road. Mass says it's a steering column issue. Pls help with your views.

Re: Baleno issue : Could a stitch in time have saved me 9K or more ?

Sorry for going OT guys.

I have a M-800. From stationary, I start the vehicle, release the handbrake, slot into first and move ahead. Within 1-2 feet of moving forward, I hear a "dhak " sound from the rear(like its coming from below the dicky/area behind below rear seat) once only.
After that there's no sound whatsoever.
It happens every time only if the car is still for about 1-2 days, not between drives
Can the experts help me out?? Is it anything serious?

@cedricsg, how old is your car and what car is it ? If it is repetitive sound you hear when turning, it could be a drive-shaft issue.

@akhil_007, I am not sure, but I think this could be related to the handbrake. I don't use handbrake much, but on the rare occasions that I do (eg. vehicle idling with a/c on), I get a similar sound after releasing the handbrake and just on moving off.

6.5 years. It's only when I go on bad roads.
