Re: Hissing sound from a/c and low cooling- Scorpio MHawk VLX

Hi Guys,

I am having a similar problem with Scoprio Hawk VLX ( owned over 2 years now). There is a hissing sound and colling almost NIL. There are droplets of water falling near clutch pedal on my feet. I called up G3 motors, Nerul where i service regularly and they said that this issue needs to be checked completly. Incase required they will have to open the dashbaord and check as there is leakage too and need vehicle for 2 days.

I have other peculiar problem all my power windows except the driver one do not operate and i have got it repaired at no major cost always, it just fails after few days. This time the service centre guy said we need to change motors for all 3 windows. Not sure about the next thing to do. He said it will be around 7-9K as a cost.

My queries are as follows

1. Any possible reasons that indicate why this a/c problem.

2. What is approximate cost of coil change that anyone of you have borne

3. Getting the check done by a reputed external A/C service vendor, will it be good trade off for better service and knowledge of staff

4. Actually i also need a good vendor for this incase anyone knows near vashio or amyother mumbai location.

Regards

Kartik

Guys,

History repeats..

The A.S.S G3 motors checked my vehicle and said we need to replace the coil and as part of the process complete a/c servicing will be done overall estimate 15K. They said over 2 years most Scorpio's have to change the A/C coil. Soon they called and said that they do not have the coil in stock so they can rectify it only after 8-10 days.

Can anyone assist me with what other option i can look at, Can anyone suggest a reputed and good contact who can handle this issue. The warranty is anyway not valid for me as it has passed those dates.

Regards

For AC work I will rather go to a good independent. Far cheaper and reliable. Most of the better ones can get the parts in under a week.

Hi,

I agree with you, i used to always rely on A.S.S as i fear the knowledge levels of any other vendor. But this time i am keen to go to a reputed vendor and try. I know it would be cheaper and maybe better if they specialize in A/C related jobs.

Add one more to the list, Mine touched 60k kms(2.5 yrs) this week and i have the same problem for few months now. The moment you start the A/C, you would hear the hissing noise But, the cooling is the same till now.

I gave the car for service this week and he confirmed that cooling coil needs to be changed and it would cost 12000/-. But he told me to come back when the cooling drops which never happened for 4-5 months.

My fault that I did not specify 'specialist'. There must be a few independents specialising in auto-AC and some of they may also be agents of Subros or some other firm. These chaps normally have a good supply of spares for many vehicles irrespective of whether the one in question is from their stable, and the supply chains to get the spares if required.

Kartik, I agree with sgiitk, please take the car to a 3rd party tech - he will help you get a 2nd opinion. I find it very hard to believe that a cooling coil needs replacement after only 2 years - unless of course it was sub standard material to begin with. From what I know M&M haven't dropped to that level, yet.

Also, hissing sound when the compressor starts off for the 1st time each day or after a prolonged halt is normal. My car does it as well, and is audible if you listen carefully. For that matter even my room AC does it. It is the sound of the refrigerant starting to circulate in the system

Since you live in Thane, I also suggest that you switch off the compressor and run the blower at medium speed for a few minutes before switching it off. That will help the cooling coils/heat exchanger come back to ambient and any condensation on the fins will dry off. Existing moisture on the fins can accelerate corrosion especially in coastal areas.

I always do follow this procedure though I live in a city with comparatively less humidity.
