Hello folks!
I am going abroad for a couple of months, and unfortunately and very sadly can't take my Verna along :), I'll just have to manage with rented SUV's and the likes.
A service is due (I am at 40k kms now).
Question is:
- What do I need to do to the car before I go ? Empty the fuel Tank /Disconnect the battery ? Is there some kind of checklist ?
- Shall I get the servicing done now ? Or after I come back ?
I could not find this topic elsewhere, and found this to be the most appropriate category. Moderators, request you to move it to the relevant thread as deemed appropriate.
a few things you can do to prepare your car for storage will be
1. if service is due, get it done (your car will be ready to run when you return and the fluids in your car will not thicken or get contaminated as they will be new)
2. overinflate the tyres (+5-7psi than normal pressure)
3. if you have the facility to jack up the car that would be good.
4. fill up the tank (this avoids any moisture in the air that replaces used fuel to condensate in your fuel tank)
5. get the car washed down, underbody especially.
6. clean the interiors of the car and apply any type of polish in PU or leather finished parts to avoid fungus
7. after the battery is fully charged disconnect both the battery terminals.
8. make sure you close shut any points where rats can enter into the car (exhaust and intake) make a note of these to avoid problems when you arrive and start the car.
9. do not apply the hand brakes. leave the car in gear.
well i'm sure there are some more points to add on and some tweaking to be done on my ideas. have a nice trip
cheers
Saud

Nothing more exhaustive than found in this link sent by Ph03n!x
Laying up your car : Not using your car for a long time - how to prepare your car for storage - The AA It has a month wise break up of what needs to be done. I would recommend you completing the service due before taking up this task.

Any reasons for not applying hand brakes

Rear brakes may get jammed if kept on hand brakes over a long period of time.
