RPM going wild at start on idling in Matiz

Hi,

There is a strange problem in our matiz, which is around 10 years old. The RPM will increase without any throttle input and it will keep on varying from low to high. Once you put on the first gear and push off it will go back to normal but on idling the engine will sound like some one is revving it again and again. Any idea what could be the source of this problem. One mechanic suggested that one valve is bad. Could it be the issue?

Idler valve is probably choked up. Get it cleaned, no need to buy a new one. If that doesn't fix it, check for vacuum leaks.

There was a similar problem in my friends esteem the idling rpm varied between 900-1200 rpm on starting. A scanner was connected to findout. the sensors were ok.
Check the resistance of the plug wires and there is an optical sensor in the distributor. Pls check that.
