Difficult in a turbo-charged vehicle, especially if you care about the turbo's longevity. Only solution would be to remain easy on the revvs, both before and after coming to a halt. But with traffic conditions being as unpredictable as they are, it is highly impractical.

Hi all, need an expert advise. I drive a Manza QJD and now I have a Check engine light ON with a Glow plug indicator blinking for couple of seconds after starting the engine. I suspect it to be a blown glow plug. I had one of them replaced 1 month back. I was reluctant to replace them all at that time and seems another one went kaput now. How bad it is to drive the car with a blown glow plug till I feel some difficulty in starting the car? Now the car starts without any fuss. I heard that doing so could damage the engine cylinders if tip of the glow plug wears down. Is this possible? Thanks

Go to the ASC and change all the glow plugs at one go and also check the error codes using the OBD reader at TASS.

Not at all good to drive with the warning lamps.

Anurag.

Ideally you should have changed all of them together, that way complete piece of mind. When one of the GP goes kaput, the chances of the others following suit are pretty high, I have had the same experience. I suggest get all of them changed and you dont have to go to the TASS, any FNG with a good electrician should be able to do it and at lower cost.

Generally you may not find any difficulty in starting till your engine is fit. But glow plug nowadays is no more an aid to starting, it also helps the engine for a better warm up, and emission reduction. It depends on the engine management how they are using the glow plug feedback to optimize engine performance. They can adopt new settings if open circuit is detected. Furthermore there are chances of misfire during cold which can slowly affect the journal bearings if prolonged.

And a long actuation in instrument cluster also reports a malfunction in glow system in our Mercedes diesels. I dont know whether same is applicable in tata.

well, I knew that it is better to replace them all at once. But kind of put back by thinking that I had to shell out close to 3K for replacing all 4 GPs in TASS. I am almost fed up by the maintenance cost of my car. It easily comes to more than 18K per year. Thanks to Kerala roads and TATA's reliability. Ah, for now I think I have to bear that 3K :Frustrati

How old is your car? If it is out of warranty, I suggest you give TATA a TA TA, BYE- Bye and visit a friendly FNG or an automobile electrician. 4 BOSCH glow plugs costed me around 1500 last year and since I took it from the auto electrician, he did not charge me anything for changing them. TASS charges 800 for just changing/labour.

It is now 3 years and 6 months old. I have 6 more months to run out of extended warranty. Yes I am waiting for that extended warranty to get over to say the much awaited TA TA to TASS. To change a single glow plug, TASS charged me 970:Shockked:

What do you expect? Glow plugs are quite expensively priced. I paid as much in 2006 to have one changed on my Bolero.

The MRP is quite less, The cost price of the glow plug that I changed for my Indica DLG in 2012 was 1499. TASS was quoting 500 per piece + Tax along with labour charge. So, if you mean to say the cost is normal, I guess I would disagree.

Glow plugs aren't that expensive for hatches though. For Ritz diesel it costs Rs 480/- per glow plug plus taxes.

I agree. And if you buy them yourself and get them fitted outside of any A ** they will work out much cheaper.
