Getz 1.3 suspension replacement

I have a 1.3 Getz which just completed 6 years / 53,000 kms.

Since the last 2 -3 months, there is a lot of heavy noise coming from the front, especially when the car goes over pot holes and speed breakers. At the last service (52k kms), I asked Jaya Auto to inspect the same.

They came up with the assessment that the entire front suspension has given up and needs to be replaced. I really doubt this, since the previous 2 services done by them did not reveal anything to this effect.

1. Is it possible that the entire suspension gives up at one go?

I asked them for a quote and was told it will be around 25k + labour charges. I found this to be on the high side.

2. Can someone guide me to a good suspension job specialist in Mumbai? I have trustworthy spare parts shop so procuring parts wouldn't be a problem.

Since I did not get the suspension replaced by them and merely got it re-fitted, now the noise has increased many times. During a normal drive too, there is a lot of clunk and thud coming from the front.

Please suggest what options I have? I am looking to sell this car, so do not want to invest a lot of many at this point.

25k for front suspension is ridiculous. and that mechanic is definitely swindling.

You can check the suspension yourself. Check for any sign of oil leakage. Now this is easy, check for moist struts with lot of dust sticking to it.

Check the Tbhp directory's mumbai section for trusted mechanic out there.

Since its a six years out of warranty car you might as well want to do outside of A.S.S.

The mechanic is Jaya Auto - an "authorized" Hyundai service center!

I tried, but the post seems to have been removed. Can you provide me a link / contact?

That's a Loot for sure.

The noise increase may be due to removal or more damage to rubber studs in removing and re-fixing the old shocker.

I am sure most shockers can be repaired for atleast 1-2 times, check with a private garage.
H.A.S.S. loves replacing entire unit.

Can someone please list down the spare parts that compose the front suspension for the Getz? I'm thinking of getting quotation from 2-3 shops and will then ask my local mechanic to do the job.

IIRC, the cost of shocks is approx 8k for a pair.

Even my Getz has been diagonised for Wornout Front Shocks at 56000 kms, need to replace at next service . The entire set including struts cost 8K at Kun Hyundai Workshop . My neigbhourhood mechanic suggests the shocks can be overhauled and can expect life for another 8-10k kms.

Generally, once a car is over 5 years old, best to look at independent shops for major work. The difference in pricing (vis a vis authorised dealers) is too large to ignore.

50,000 kms is pretty much the maximum intended life for a stock suspension. You can use it beyond this point too, but the suspension is way past its prime. It won't be performing optimally (compromised ride & handling).

Dampers (shocks) for sure, along with bushes. Anything else (tie-rod, lower arms, bearings etc.) only after evaluation. Gabriel is a good brand for the shocks.

Don't even think about it. When a part is worn out completely, it is best to replace with new.

Thanks GTO for a lucid explanation. One quick question - is it mandatory (or better?) to replace both LHS and RHS components, or piecemeal basis works equally good?

I'm asking this because RHS tie rod and lower arm were replaced just 8k kms ago.

It is better and advised to replace both simultaneously.in fact you should have changed both RHS LHS when you replaced the one 8k kms ago
