Congrats on your new car and welcome to the forum. Post up some pics.

Don't rely on the dealers words. Most of them don't care for your car. Talk to them. But do your own research (like reading this forum) before trying things on your car. In this case you should also read the owner's manual. I am sure it says that there is a run-in period. It is always recommended to keep engine rpms low during run-in period and the manual says how low. I've also heard some say that you should try to vary engine rpm and not drive at a constant rpm. I guess this is because driving at a constant rpm generates a lot of heat which may not be good for the engine before it is properly run-in.

Yes thats true a good run in for the first 2000kms is always good. Good mechanics always recommend that. You could start speeding/reving right from the word go, but never hurts to be a bit carefull and wise!!

Check the owners manual. It should have a line regarding the 'run-in' period. Santro's is 700 and it was said so in teh manual.

As others rightly said, please verify the owner's manual for the run-in period. I am just reiterating the fact.

Have a nice ride and handle it properly as she is longer car than normal.!
