Gypsy 1.0 : Exhaust stinks!

My 1L gypsy's got a short pipe exhaust that comes out just before the rear wheel, of late the exhaust stinks really bad ,when I lift off, when the revs are dropping, its a sharp smell ,eyes burn too
The smoke is not white , but i do need to put in half a liter every now and then.
but that could be just due to a 12 yr old engine right?
Note- its started to happen since the winters set in could it be related or just a co incidence?

So suggest what could be the problem?

Re: Gypsy 1.0 : Exhaust stinks!

Usually a stinking exhaust is the result of high sulfur fuel or a failing catalytic converter.

However, I really am not familiar with this make and model of the vehicle, so my answer may be way off base. More details would help me at least in giving a better answer.

Are you sure the engine is not running too rich? Deriving from eye's burning. Stink as in rotten eggs kinds or fuel smell? Fuel smell is rich mixture.
