Honda Jazz Foul smell issue

It has off late been discussed a lot on how the Jazz interiors smell foul when the a/c fan is turned on.

It has been noticed by Me, Superboy44 (thank you for the DIY), Lazy, Biyer, Scrooze and many others.

Is it a defect, con or plain weather playing its role?

Devarishi,
even I noticed the same issue. Though the smell is not good, it is not "foul" in my case. It is something which is not very pleasant.
I thought of cleaning the filter (thanks to superboy44) but since the 3rd service was due today, I asked the service guys to take care. I got my car back just an hour back and a short drive indicated that the issue is gone. Will confirm the same after driving for a few more days. But looks likely that the dirty filter is the culprit.
Have you or anyone else tried cleaning the filter?

@ Devarshi84,

I faced a similar issue sometime back in my Indica turbo. There was some problem with the filter. I mentioned it to the TASS guys at servicing. They serviced the AC and the problem is gone after that.

Cheers

While searching on this topic came across the below post:

I think can try the above and see if it works for me.

well cleaning the filter seems to have worked for me.
any idea of how much a replacement pollen filter would cost?

@adimicra

i have not encountered any smell in my car even after 1.5 years. however, i face another problem.
1. whenever the heater is on and the blower on recirculation mode (winters in delhi) with all windows up, my eyes start burning after about 5-10 minutes and i have to switch off the heater for sometime before restarting it.
2. also, a small doubt, am i supposed to keep the ac on before switching over to the heating mode? have tried both options(i.e. ac on and off) for heating, have not felt a difference.
3. also, i keep my blower in recirculation mode in city driving and in open position on the highways is it a good idea?

I have had it in my Zen and Scorpio. Happens more if you run internal circulation without AC on.

Any specific reason for the same. I have the same problem with my Swift. A little odd smelling when you switch on the AC or the blower but goes off after few minutes.

Tried everything but cannot understand where the smell is coming from. Planning to remove and clean the complete AC passage.

Re: Honda Jazz Foul smell issue

If I remember from my home AC problem in the U.S, there is something called entrainment, wherein the humid air is brought into the system which can result in mold growth. Don't know if its the same.
But it could be because of bad quality air being pulled into the system. A proper cleaning should get rid of the problem.
