Maruti Alto - Technical Specifications & Feature List

Maruti Alto - Technical Specifications & Feature List

Team-BHP will now be uploading the full feature list and technical specifications of each car sold in India. This information isn't readily available; even manufacturer websites sometimes don't present all the data (intentionally), while the fancy formats they use make for poor readability. Then, we have some manufacturers who tend to confuse you by listing a glovebox as a feature!! Lastly, the official websites don't follow any standard display order as such, which can make comparisons across cars very difficult.

Team-BHP will follow a standard, easy-to-refer-to format across all Indian cars. With time, this data will be transferred to an interactive website section.

IMP : Please list out any errors in the following sheet; your contribution will greatly help the community, other BHPians & guests. You can point out corrections on this thread itself. Thank you!

Re: Maruti Alto - Technical Specifications & Feature List

Such threads will be very useful for new cars buyers. Very nice presentation format of the sheet also.

But I think we should have separate sub forum in technical forum section for easy accessibility of all such threads.

Re: Maruti Alto - Technical Specifications & Feature List

Specs of K10 is needed too.
Gear Ratios are missing in the list.
The specs of the discontinued VX1.1 also need to be included, which would be of help to owners though the model is not in production.

Re: Maruti Alto - Technical Specifications & Feature List

IIRC Alto has the provision to fold the rear seat back for extra luggage space.

CONVENIENCE
Fold-down rear seats Y Y Y

Is the list being made for the cars currently on sale or does it covers few decade old cars too.

Re: Maruti Alto - Technical Specifications & Feature List

It would be nice to have servicing details also in this thread. For e.g, How many liters of engine oil, Coolant, gear oil and brake fluid is needed, etc. I had great difficulty in getting these info when I decided to buy the fluids myself.

This list will only include cars currently in production and on sale in the Indian market.

Should be coming up soon.

We are trying to keep this list as simple as possible by keeping only those parameters which are considered while buying a new car. Gear-Ratios are good to know from an enthusiast point of view, but a general customer does not really care about them while buying a new car.

Stratos, put in the PCD for each car as well. Would help people with some additional tech spec. A link to a team-bhp official test drive will be a good addition.
I would also think of putting prices of basic spares which includes:

1) All filters - Air / Oil & Fuel.
2) Brake pads, spark plugs, belts.

This would give some basic insight on the cost of maintaining the car as well.

Good initiative.

Re: Maruti Alto - Technical Specifications & Feature List

Why are alloys mentioned under safety features ?

Please include tyre type (tube/tubeless) in the specs.

Regarding FE - what is the source of these figures ? Are these the car manufacturer's claimed figures or team members' reported figures.

I would request you to add a column for the convenience features (like central locking/keyless entry, power windows etc) which can be added as a genuine accessory by the dealer.

It was the only appropriate group they would fall into in the 'Features' list.

Almost all manufacturers today provide tubeless tyres.

They are figures reported by Team-BHP members (From the ones posted using the form on this page Team-BHP - The Definitive Indian Car Community - Test Drives)

I would say PCD and offset values. Generally these are not available even on manufacturer's websites.

If possible, include the launch date (at least month and year) of the vehicles/variant as well.

What about paddle shift for auto transmission vehicles?

THe Gear Ratios are also part of Technical Specifications and could be considerable. This would help for cars with various engine options like in Alto. Worth reconsidering.

Alloy wheels are indeed safer (compared to steel wheels), by however slim a margin. Their construction is more robust, thus they don't get bent as easily as steel wheels. Generally, alloys also result in superior air feed to the brakes. The high-quality alloys are also lighter, thus reducing unsprung weight.

If you want to upgrade your tyres, safety reasons included, an alloy wheel may be necessary to accommodate the tyre width.

Of course, the margin is admittedly thin and I don't know of anyone who avoided an accident due to alloy wheels. Nevertheless, thanks to the advantages mentioned above, we feel that safety is the most suitable category for these wheels.

Nice Initiative.

One correction, Service interval is 10,000 KMs not 5.

Re: Maruti Alto - Technical Specifications & Feature List

I also feel that like Test drives and Tbhp official test reports, this kind of thread should also be in a dedicated sub-forum which will have a thread for each of the long list of all cars in production in India. It would be a lot easier to search for any car that is not listed in the sub-forum.

Re: Maruti Alto - Technical Specifications & Feature List

Is it possible to include power and torque curves in this section? It'll be of immense help.
Under entertainment, also include if HU is single din or double din.
Does EBD (as in the Fiesta) come under ABS or Traction Control, if not it can also be included as a separate feature under safety.
