Indigo DICOR 3rd and 5th gears popping into Neutral automatically.

My Indigo Marina Dicor has been facing a peculiar issue for the past fortnight or so. While driving when I shift into 3rd gear and accelerate the gear pops back into neutral around 30-40 Kmph. However, if I shift into 3rd above these speeds the gear stays ok but when I shift into 5th it wont hold. There is a thak sound and the gear pops back into neutral. 5th cannot be engaged irrespective of the speeds unlike 3rd which slams itself back into neutral around 30-40 kmph. There is no noise from the transmission and all other gears work fine. What could eb the cause here, help.

Check the synchronizer.

But wont a problem with synchroniser affect operation of all gears and not just 3rd and 5th?

Improper meshing of gears, worn gears, synchronizer faulty, faulty shifter mechanism / poppet ball & spring can be among the causes. Will need opening up if occurs frequently.

BTW, how many kms has your car run?
