Last evening I was coming back from the Bangalore Airport in the Logan Taxi. I found the under thigh support not to be a good enough for my 5.11 frame. However considering that mostly women sit at the rear and average Indian height is not much I guess the rear bench should be fine for most journeys by Indian families even in the ANHV.

Handling should not a major issue if one drives within sensible speeds. Frankly our roads are very unsafe at high speeds. I come from Coorg where I have done extensive driving in my Accent CRDi and i20 CRDi. Driving in winding roads is largely with gears and slow into a curve and faster out. Most people drive with the flooring the pedal seeing the steep gradients instead of changing gears. No car in this class can address this kind of driving in the long term.

Welcome sticking to the old zens, altos, swifts, etc. etc. One may also read the thread on "Lateral upgrades" in Team BHP, which I think is a very useful one (as many others are).

Hey, I got a little stick for my comment. I will probably re-frame.
Zen is not what I own, but I drive that as that's what we car pool with.
I was talking about a no non-sense driving pleasure with this old car. All its got is a steering with no PS, a long throw gear shift, a low seating position and a window on which you can rest your arms.

Our newer cars:
A lot of fuel gauge indicators which would show you how economically you are driving. How hard you are driving etc [Like the Red and Green indicators on the Victor]. I mean, are we not knowledgeable enough to know that our self?
A 20 optioned wiper stalk. [By the time we know which one suits the situation, we would have missed a lot of action ahead]
Steering has so many controls that you will have to get your left hand to honk, or take your hands off the steering wheel to honk. [I would prefer to honk with my thumb]
Gear shift indicator. [I am not sure how well this is going to help a novice driver, and how many BHPians would want this]

All I am trying to say is, Yes you have given me all the features but I am not sure they are making my drive more enjoyable. Is it not complicating our lives?

Coming back to the Ride and handling: Last week, I drove a 400+ Kms of ghats (Western ghats Karnataka) and a lot of poor roads. My Figo did impress me a lot with its handling and ride and lateral support. You sure would want your car to handle well, else it would be strenuous on longer drives. Lack of power steering response and poor ride ability is sure a NO-NO for me.

Coming back to the car: I simply love the looks. Hyundai have really improved in this department. A few years back, they were doing the Sonata with Jaguar rear and C-class front. I am surprised as to how much this company has changed in such a small time. They now have a lineage styling across their models. Great going Hyundai.
And the interiors: Who can match their attention to detail. Linea/ City/ Sx4 simply are not in the class when it comes to the interior quality. Hyundai is the benchmark. And the rubberized plastic feel on the dash board is something I like a lot.
And Hyundai is one company that brings their cars straight into India unlike others who already have their Indian line up of cars being sold elsewhere.

In all, Love this car and the effort Hyundai India has done to bring us this car. I hope they are going to improve the negative aspects soon.

I would love to see Hyundai to grow as a global brand.

Verna just cannot be compared with a C+ segment car just because of its nearly equivalent powermill or some additional goodies. C+ segment cars have a much better overall drive feel in terms of ride and handling due to their longer wheelbase and better suspension characteristics.

This can be immediately noticed if you do a back to back drive of a Verna vis.a.vis a Civic, Altis or a Cruze.

Fair enough, i am sure they would be better but the question is how much better and is that "better" worth the money. For example i drove Altis and Vento and felt apart from few features (Disc on all 4s, Safety etc) the over all drive feel was not worth the 4-5L that i am going to spend extra. To be honest this would also be very subjective, i might feel the drive-feel difference may not be worth 4L price difference while someone else may feel its worth it.

It is premature to say this, without even waiting for Hyundai to announce its prices. Going by the past, they've always priced their products high, and therefore the difference in prices may not be much compared to the higher segment cars.

I agree with mobike008 that if someone is going for a C+ segment car, he will not look at a C segment car. The Civic and Cruze are leagues ahead, not only in space and comfort but also in handling.

Of all the members who might have responded to my post, I found yours the most sensible, to respond to. I found your statement [that I've made bold now] very sensible and mature.

Your post also makes sense. Maybe I should give it a test drive before I decide for myself. Now, I'm not the one that takes a car on corners at speeds above 130, but I do a couple of highway driving every year, frequent runs between Blore and Chennai, so whenever the road and safety checks permit, I enjoy driving spiritedly. I own a 1.4 Petrol Fabia which sticks to the road like tar, and whether you choose to believe me or not, I touched 170 on it while on the way back from Mumbai, to Blore during May 2010.

If I wasn't going to do higher speeds when I have the opportunity [and I make myself these often, given I love to drive], why would I choose to buy a 1.6 128bhp diesel in the first place? What, for a reversing camera in the internal RVM, or ACC? Those that responded stating and asking how often do we do speeds beyond 130+, then by that same logic, we all could be happily driving lesser spirited hatchbacks and sedans. IMO, anyone buying the new verna only for features, has got to be kidding himself/herself.

I am sure it is a great car. Their biggest stumbling block could be pricing. It has to be over the i20 - the top end of which is in the Swift Dzire. Indigo Manza Range. All said and done Hyundai are compared to Tata and Suzukis not to Hondas and VWs. If they price it lower than Hondas and VWs - that would automatically move them in the i20 range and thus could eat into their own market. Looks like a good product. Hope they get it right.

I would prefer to cruise at speeds between 100-120 kmph, even where the situation may call for sudden maneuver & Iam interested in knowing whether there would be a noticeable difference between these two cars.

- Any information of standard/extended warranty?
- GC?
- Service Intervals?

Looks to me a very good package and I wouldnt mind cancelling my current Vento booking and going for this, if it is in the same price bracket.

Just a quick question guys, do you have any feedback on the looks from the fairer sex? My wife, for one, says that the car looks like a bad creature with bulging eyes (ala insects) and a snake like front. I never saw it that way and I quite like it. Did any others feel the same? Just curious.On the other hand by looking at it that way, it does look similar.

Thanx Ajay. I am a FAN of "good cars"! I dont believe in brand loyalty at all - so never bother to check which manufacturer should I stick to, but rather look at cars. It was nice of you to specify what you thought - Thank you!

Not at all ! In India there is still a BIG chunk of people who see car as a status symbol and purely go by the max features offered in a car / brand in their budget. For them comfort / plushness is the only criteria most of the times. I know a person in my native who owned a Getz CRDi and later upgraded to 1st Gen Verna CRDi. Would you believe if I say that this guy never drives more than 40kmph ??? [Trust me, he is a pain in the *** if we are caught behind him - never gives way for others to even overtake, keeps driving in the middle of the road!]

IMO a little bit of overlapping should be fine given that these cars are from different segments, price wise & look wise.
