I'm getting the 32oz ONR for $15 ordered through amazon. I was impressed with the reviews I read on this product and hence ordered one. I wash my car once a week and thought this would be a good thing to try. I need to schedule a visit to the 3M detailers in chennai for a complete detailing package, The interiors of my car need special attention. I have got scratches on all the door pads, glove box, dashboard etc, thanks to my kiddos But then I have been postponing it since it is inevitable and bound to happen again!

I am back in Bangalore. And the car has crossed 15000kms and due for first service now. Here is what I am planning to get checked / replaced in the first service:

• Fuel filter replacement
• AC filter replacement: AC stinks for the first 20 seconds when used after a few days
• Clutch hose replacement: The vibrations from the clutch are a pain
• Engine oil replacement
• Autolock / Auto-unlock enabled through VAS

I hope I have not missed out anything.

Wheel balancing and alignment - please get it done from a specialised shop and not the workshop
Check the minute things before delivery - coolant top-up , wiper fluid top-up , if you have reversing sensors whether its working ok ( mine was disconnected when they handed over)

I beleive this will not help you if your issue is only vibration from the clutch. Only if you are experiencing some kind of sound when engaging the clutch it qualifies for a replacement. Some amount of drive train vibration will always be felt in diesel cars, just that its a little bit on the higher side for the vento.

Rest of the items are the standard stuff to be done during the first service. As souravc mentioned, check the wheel alignment done from a reputed shop outside.

I'm still surprised that you are not hearing the creaking sound from the door beadings. Earlier it was only the rear one for me, now all the 4 doors have started making this noise

Any specific reasons why? When I had got my car delivered in Apr'11, it had a tendency to drift left. Showed it to the SA and they corrected it. No problems yet at 3400 kms.
As my service is due in Mar'12 end finding all relevant info which may benefit in either way.

Don't get the wiper fluid top up done from them as they would charge Rs. 250+ for the same. Instead ask them to give you a bottle of Windscreen Wiper Fluid cost Rs. 250+ for 500 ml to make your own concentrate and it would last longer than their.

Btw I believe you would be the only tdi who has to go for servicing based on the time duration rather than the kms!

Ditto here. Somehow I have this feeling this would start popping up again once the rainy season starts. Mine stopped making that noise once the rains stopped.

I'm actually happy, less visit to the workshop just once in a year compared to Japs/Korean where there is a free service every 3 months.

Now that the my VeeDub is doing 30 kms daily but still no way I be able to hit 15000 kms before 365 days.

I actually got the wheel balancing and alignment done from Premji's Tyreplus (saw this from your thread). I had noticed the drifting of the car to the left on the highway run. So thought it would be good to get it done immediately. Happy with the results. So I am going to ask the workshop to not do it again.

No, it is not just the vibration. I do get a increased sound when I depress the clutch, like Ricky has described in his thread. It sounds like a pneumatic drill digging a road somewhere in the distance!

Yes, surprising indeed, given that I've been through some really rough roads (rather, terrain) in my out-of-state travels. I got a scare once but it turned out to be some pebbles in the door side pockets. Don't know how they reached there!

Its a capability issue rather than cost - Specialised wheel alignment and balancing shops are way better . They do it in front of you and explain to you the drift .
As Nilesh mentioned Premji Tyre Plus is very good .. I swear by the one at Thane

I will get my Black Vento HL D, May be mid of next week from VW Banglaore Housr road.As suggested by el lobo i will do stock yard PDI before registration.
What are all the accesories i should buy , i think Mudflaps and floor Mats are giving (are they part of standard fitment?) by the showroom.

1 . By following the posts on vento , i think there is some thing called kogu 3D matts,which best fit the vento ,where do i get them in bangalore ?
2. Sun film,which one to go for please suggest the model number & the store , my requirement here is it should not be too dark.
3. Does the showroom do a Teflon coating or anti rust before the delivery,if not do they require ?
what are the other things i should take care as process of delivery and immediate aftermarket accesories.

Hi Phani, congratulations on booking the black Vento! Sorry, somehow missed your post!

• Avoid buying floor mats from the showroom. Get Kagu 3D mats. They come for roughly 4.5k and are now available at all major accessory shops. The ones I know are Hot Tracks on Victoria road, Torque in Indiranagar, EVO in Cambridge layout.
• Go for the popular 3M sunfilms - CR70 (30% light rejection) for the front windshield and RE50 (50% visible light rejection) for rest of the glasses in the car.
• Don't go for the Teflon or anti-rust coating. They are worthless. VW cars have superior paint quality and also VW gives a 4 year warranty on the paint.
• Maintaining dark colours is quite a task. Get a good cleaning kit -- Jopasu duster, microfibre cloths, wash mitts & ONR (Optimum No Rinse liquid, for those waterless cleanups).
• Get a tyre puncture repair kit if you are going to do a lot of highway driving.
• Headlight upgrade: This one is due for me too. I am planning to get mine upgraded soon. Lots of pointers available in the forum and the Vento thread.
• Tyres: I am fine with the Apollo Acceleres right now though they are a bit noisy. You could go for Yokohoma C-drives (195/60/R15) if you are looking for silent tyres. If you plan to change the tyres, do it on the delivery date itself, so that you get the best buyback deal for your OEM tyres.
• Time and again, I have been advised against a car body cover. So have avoided buying one till now.

I have done the stockyard PDI yesterday as today is planned for the registration. I did checked the car along with one of my friend . Spent time on verifying the VIN and chassis No ,look out for any dents ,paint abnormalities, interior inspection etc also checked for the glimpse of rust ,did not find anything abnormal or worry some factor. All the cars covered with thick dust as some kind of bore digging is happening in on corner of the stockyard. They did a basic prewash before i arrive for the PDI. The tyres present are Apollo acceleres.
While returning from the stockyard PDI i did a visit to 3M car care in HSR Layout to check on the sun films. Arvind form 3M attended and explained the different films on offer. His suggestion is CP 35 or CP 50 for the windows and rear plus CR 70 for the windshield. We did not discuss on RE series as they are reflective type and my requirement is on transparent film. But i did check tomorrow on RE50 as you suggested. The quote for films including wind shield i.e. CR + CP is around 13k.Infact he did convinced me on paint sealant treatment for new car to preserve the glossy look & shine for longer time, that will cost ~3k.

Here is my plan for the accessories (from the showroom):

1. I will get OEM Mud flaps (hard ones) , here i am pushing the dealer to give them for free
2. Door sills ( don’t know how they will look),quoted around 1.3k some thing
3. art leather seat covers (beige) .I enquired about the same seat covers as 2012 Vento , but they don’t have it. I haven’t seen the seat covers yet but need to order it now though phone if i need them fitted for tomorrow delivery.

Outside showroom :
1. will buy 3D mats.
2. 3M sun films CR70 + CP35 or RE50
3. 3M Paint Sealant treatment

No Plans on changing the tyres, for now i will run on them.

So finally, the car's first service is through. The odo is now at 15411kms. It was overall a good experience. The total cost came to 10,500. Seems a little high though and there are a few items in the invoice that I did not understand and intend to get them clarified from the SA. So how is the car doing now? Here are the key points: (Reproducing my post from the main Vento thread, with a few additions)

• AC filter, fuel filter, dust/pollen filter all got replaced.
• Engine oil (5l) and windscreen liquid got topped up.
• There was a tiny puncture in my left front tyre. They fixed that.
• They cleaned up the brake pads and the brake drums.
• The SA said my car was not in the list for the hydraulic engine mount replacement.
• I had complained about the clutch vibration and noise. They did fiddle around with it. It is a lighter and quieter now. After a ten minute run, it becomes super quiet. Not sure if they actually replaced the clutch hose. I saw something about pressure hose adjustment in their internal job sheet.
• They also probably fiddled with the power steering. It is a lot heavier now at low speeds and more confidence inspiring than earlier.
• An ECU update was done. Again, they did not mention this in the invoice.
• That ECU update (or probably the fuel filter replacement) resulted in an improved power delivery. The rubber band effect is less pronounced now and the accelerator is quicker to respond at lower RPMs (especially in the 2nd gear).
• No change in NVH levels.
• They tightened the hand brake. Earlier, it had to be pulled up all the way up and then a little more if the car was parked on a gradient. Now it is nice and tight even at a short angle. Good for me as it now does not touch the armrest at all.
• AC is way better at cooling the cabin now. Set at 22°C, it chills me down to the bone! Also, the rotten smell at AC start is now gone.
• Only one small crack in the whole service experience -- they enabled autolock (at 15kmph) feature but did not enable the auto-unlock feature!

On a different note, on account of Gudi Padwa (or Ugadi here in KA), got some bling bling for the steering wheel -- the missing chrome insert. This had been bugging me right from the start. I always looked at Ventos which had it and felt a tiny bit sad that I did not have it! So searched and search and finally found this on eBay being sold by an HK accessory shop. Snapped it up for 500 bucks. Here is how they look:

More bling!! These side chrome inserts came along. Thought I will put them on and use for a few days. Will remove them if I get bored. Do note that they look better physically than in these mobile phone photos.
