Does you 'package' include the brand equities of Toyota and Mitsubishi? If it does, then it should outsell the Corolla, which I very much doubt.

NHC outsells maruti baleno. which do you think is a better overall package?

To the enthusiast, it is the Baleno. To Mr. Practicality (and the majority of Indias car buying public), it is the NHC.

most probably he'll skip both and take the civic ... the why part would lie in the right mix of power, FE, comfort, looks and low maintenance

but then - only the sales figures can be the real decider

cedia certainly wont outsell the Civic.

Honda brand name in India
Better power figures
Better looks ( atleast I like the civic more)

will sure make civic a success when it hits our shores. But until then Cedia certainly is a better buy than corolla.

better features, better FE, Better price, Better looks and Comparable performance.

I dont see cedia selling in large numbers. I myself dont like one but its a better product than corolla.

The Baleno is the 2nd most over-rated car on this forum after the Vtec.

Baleno is a car that came to India after It was discontinued everywhere else and still sells in one month what Fiat manages to sell in a year. How can baleno be under-rated?

An underrared car would be mitsubishi lancer. Its bigger,as Fuel efficient, better looker, newer than baleno and a better handler and safer. The only downside is power and the climate control.

Cedia has an understated style. There are chances HM will also spoil cedia like it did to the lancer 1.5 unless it takes preventive measures to stay ahead of competition.

Baleno sells primarily, because at 5-6L, you get a VFM deal. Price it alongwith lancer, fiesta and the NHC, and sales would be lower than the Fiat.

It has nothing to do with the rating of the car by itself.

Bigger - NO - they are the same size, the difference is only in few mm
As FE - 10-11 kmpl (lancer) and 12 kmpl (baleno) - there is a diff here
Newer - ya, sure - like comparing two dinosaurs
Better handler - yes
Safer - ?? how do you say this

Sure - drop prices by a lakh or two, just maybe, some ppl might notice the VFM in it.

Come on lets not get cheeky here with the FE!
The Lancer is bigger than the baleno, i dont have the exact dimensions tho. The interior is more spacious in the lancer too.
The lancer is a sturdier car too imo.
And as far as pricing goes...the lancer cost 6.6 lakhs now which falls into the same bracket as the baleno.

@bhanusrinivas - Read devashri's post it shows the difference btwn under-rated and over-rated.

HM should realise that people who buy sporty-looking cars for 10 + lakhs don't like getting blitzed at the signals by cars that cost half as much. Cedia needs more horses very badly.

Lancer:
Length: 4290 mm
Width: 1690 mm
Height: 1430 mm

Baleno:
Length 4225 mm
Width 1690 mm
Height 1390 mm

Its around 2.5 inches longer and an inch higher - hardly any "bigger" ... so lets not get cheeky about the size here

I agree with the sturdier part though - and it is a better handler.

Also, in the VFM part - how can HM ever beat MUL's service availability and much much lower priced spares. FYI, lancer spares cost twice as much as the baleno - in fact they are even higher than an Optra and a Corolla.

and while lancer costs 6.6 L for the lowest end, baleno costs 5.5 L - there is a lakh of a difference here
