Congratulations Sir,

I just test drove one today morning. I have a new Bolero CRDE but really wanted to buy the Thar. What I noticed was that the gears are really butter smooth compared to the Bolero and the pick up is a slam you back into the seat kind.

This vehicle is the most exciting one of the stable. It corners like a stallion.
I know that you will have a great time with it and I raise a toast to its creator Mr. Behram.

No. It has too many tether points and way too many beams and plates underneath to undo to take the top off. What one can do when you wish to keep the Thar more an open tourer is to have a bikini top stitched for emergency use, as I have done for my CJ3B. These are pretty effective (drive 8 hours in pouring rain from Sholapur to Hyd with such a top) in protecting you from the elements and come off in under 2 minutes. The only problem is you will have them flapping about a bit unless you retain the braces underneath

With an a/c the soft top Thar is a very useable city commuter or highway cruiser. Ofcourse you can always make a case for sedans and hatchbacks in terms of security, better handling, better finish and creature comforts but overall if you desire a car which can take you places a sedan or hatchback can't the soft top Thar is a terrific buy.

I personally believe it is a great alternative to a premium hatch. The engine gearbox are dynamite and the sheer versatility of the car in terms of its go anywhere ability more than compensates for the few added pros for a hatch. I personally would prefer the Thar over most premium hatches. Right now the only reason why I would want to drive my Punto is the a/c and the sportier handling. Other than this the Thar has been so much fun this past week. And its growing on me.

Yes the Thar must have an a/c. Not just the heat city pollution now demands it !!

Before I took delivery I thought a modded Thar would be even hotter in every aspect. But truthfully the stock Thar has taken me by surprise. I actually find it very appealing stock. Love the rims without the covers and the interior is very smart. I will add Warn dual beam auxillary lamps and fog lamps. Will install a winch, onboard air compressor and dc inverter, audio and if I find something that cools effectively a small fridge too. A good GPS and exhaust jack and/or traction ladders. So mainly accessorise it but no mods to the car. Won't lift the suspension either as I like it as it is.

For a hardtop will make a modular top in aluminium which can be undone by myself alone.

I really like the latest Scorpio's alloys. Would want them in matt black though. As much as I would like to add alloys I am beginning to like the steel rim look too, so not sure if I may or may not.

I was originally planning to buy one when the a/c version came out. But prices went up 30k. Its a great VFM buy at present price giving the engine and mechanicals. The next offering from Mahindra or Tata is at 10 plus.

KPS it would be a delight to do a trip together. Next year I may join Shibu in Kerala, lets keep options open

Wow ! Can't believe you read my mind on that one !! Check out some great camping trailers made in Australia. Plan on doing something like that for my usual picnics around Hyderabad and long distance carting of tyres etc for offroad events

Haven't thought about it, don't want to go too oversize either as it affects the handling. But yes a slight upgrade should improve road grip without compromising handling

Some day when monetary and parking constraints are taken care off, then would like to drive one of these beasts.

As an afterthought though if a/c is available then it would be a good way to commute, keeping errant cabbie's and auto drivers at bay !!

I am not an off-road guy, but seeing the Thar first time itself, made me an ardent fan. DB's thread made me dream about Thar. Now your thread is attracting me to Thar like iron to magnet.

Congrats DKG. First the Harley and now the Thar !!! Awesome. This is the best colour that I have seen on the Thar. Have a blast with her. Do you plan to change the tires?

I once sat in a new Bolero and found it to be extremely uncomfortable. I remember someone telling me that the rear suspension has been reworked since and the ride now is apparently much more comfortable. Being a longer wheelbase car the ride should ideally be superior to that of the Thar but in reality I don't know how it rides now

After the first service will start using the car offroad and eventually upgrade to a decent AT tyre. Until then for city/highway use the Bridestones seem like good tyres.
