Polo 1.6 : My Grey Hound!

Well, where do I begin? The last 1 year has been a crazy one (strictly in terms of searching for a new ride).
I was looking to upgrade from my 2005 Swift to something more peppy & fun to drive. Decided to get the i20 petrol for a test drive, was impressed with it & decided to book the i20 with a sunroof. A day before I was supposed to give the dealer my booking amount, I decided to give the Polo 1.2 a drive too, and boy that's probably the best decision I have ever made in the last 5 years of my life.
Although I wasn't impressed with the power output of the car, the quality, fit & finish kind of made up for it
After the TD (@ Elite Motors, Hosur Road) , while taking a look at the catalogue, I noticed that VW had a 1.6 Polo too (makes me wonder why VW wouldn't advertise this particular model). After confirming the 1.6 model with the dealer, it was a no brainer. I had found the perfect upgrade to my trusted Swift.
The color's I had shortlisted were White & Pepper Grey, both of which had a 1 month waiting period.
After about a week I get a call from the dealer telling me that a Pepper Grey 1.6 had come to the stockyard. I immediately leave for the showroom. See the car parked up front. If "Love at first sight" had a meaning, it was that moment right there.

The last 2 months with the Grey Hound have been nothing short of amazing.

Mileage: Being a 1.6, I was expecting nothing above 11 kmpl, but in the worst traffic conditions the Hound returns figures of 12 kmpl & above. Which I feel is pretty amazing. On the freeway, I'm getting more than 16 kmpl. So, at the end of the day, I'm one happy camper ;-)

Suspension: VW have done a terrific job with this one. After spending a good 5 bumby years with the Swift, the Polo's suspension is an absolute stunner, to say the least.

Fit & Finish: Top Notch!

Alloys & Tyres: Love the Borbet rims! Need to upgrade the tyres to Yokohoma though.

ICE: Average sounding system. Nothing to write home about. Definite ICE upgrade in the coming days. Suggestions appreciated.

Nuff said, let the pics do the talking now.

Re: Polo 1.6:My Grey Hound!

Some more pics of the Hound taken over the last 1 month.

Gearshift: One of the best I've used till date. Smooth as silk!

HVAC: Pretty decent IMO. Does it's job well.

The addition of electric ORVM's is a God send. The lack of the rear power windows for the driver is a bummer.

Thanks a lot mate. Appreciate it! As far as my experience is concerned, it's been absolutely flawless till date. Be it the mileage (12kmpl in rush hour traffic, 16-17kmpl on the freeway) which is pretty decent for a 105 bhp engine.

Thanks a lot mate. Appreciate it! Regarding mods, i'm planning on fixing the K&N Apollo cold air intakes on an immediate basis. Race Concepts exhausts would be fixed in the upcoming month & a definite ICE upgrade. I've already picked up these speakers from the UK. It's called Vibe QB 69 Black Death. They have absolutely insane bass. Regarding the amp, I'm wondering if the JBL 4 channels are compatible with the stock head-unit.

Re: Polo 1.6:My Grey Hound!

Its raining Polo's here in team bhp. Its a wonderful choice you have made. Congratulations on your new purchase. This colour looks good on polo. Do post some interior pictures also.

It may be a stupid question though but is your car diesel or petrol. Is their diesel option in Polo 1.6?

Thanks a lot. This is a Petrol 1.6 mate. Rumor has it that VW would be launching a 1.5 Diesel in the near future. I'm getting my interiors done at Stanley in a couple of weeks, I'll post pics then :-)

Congrats on your ride! Polo 1.6 is a fantastic car.

@happyroadie, If VW had brought the 1.5diesel it would have be the best seller in the current scenario. Unfortunately understand it would take more time before they launch it.

Cheers!

Congrats on the 1.6L monster.

A few days ago I went for a TD of Polo (friend is looking for a car), I found the engine to be noisy, the gearshift to be hard and the clutch juddery. Maybe the test drive vehicle was screwed, so the gearshift and clutch can be excused. But definitely not the engine noise. You could tell easily that a oil burner was under the hood.

Thanks a lot Sachin! The Diesel does make a lotta noise when we fire her up. The Petrol too make a Dieselish noise when we start her up, but it later mellows down :-)
